The Opportunity
The Accounting Manager is responsible for providing financial management, oversight, and people leadership to the Retirement portfolio. This role ensures accurate and timely financial reporting, supports budgeting activities, and acts as a key finance partner to Operations and Senior Management while leading and developing a team of property accountants.
Key Accountabilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Review monthly property financial reporting packages to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Complete consolidated financial analysis and reporting for the Retirement portfolio, including balance sheet analysis.
- Participate in monthly financial reviews with relevant stakeholders.
Budgeting
- Coordinate, review, and support the completion of annual operating budgets in collaboration with Operations teams.
- Assist with preparation, review, and consolidated analysis of periodic forecasts.
Audit, Compliance, & Acquisitions
- Assist with quarterly review and annual audit processes.
- Ensure new acquisitions are integrated into financial systems and reporting on a timely basis.
Training & Continuous Improvement
- Function as a key finance resource and lead training related to financial statement analysis and budgeting.
- Support and assist in the training of General Managers, Director of Operations & Sales, and Vice President Operations on financial processes.
- Identify opportunities for improvement within the finance function and oversee implementation of process enhancements.

- Directly supervise, mentor, and develop team members within the finance function.
- Provide coaching, support performance management, and lead by example to create a motivated and high-performing team.
Qualifications
Education:
- University degree in Business, Finance, or related discipline
- Professional accounting designation (CPA) or equivalent work experience
Experience:
- 1-3 years of experience in financial management positions
- 3-5 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles
- Related industry experience preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of IFRST and Canadian GAAP
- Knowledge of industry-specific accounting principles
- Proficiency in EFP software and Microsoft Office
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated, innovative, and solutions-oriented
Effort
- Requires sustained attention to detail, reviewing and reconciling complex financial data.
- Frequent computer uses with prolonged sitting, keyboarding, and report preparation.
- Occasional standing, walking, and attendance at meetings
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in an office environment with periods of high workload and multiple demands.
- Occasional travel to properties and external meetings
- Flexibility to work irregular hours when required.
