Senior Azure SQL DBA:
On behalf of our Banking client, Procom is searching for a Senior Azure SQL DBA for a 6-month role. This position is a hybrid position with 2 days onsite at our client’s Toronto office.
Senior Azure SQL DBA - Job Description:
The Expert DBA will manage and optimize the performance of large-scale Azure SQL databases in a high-demand enterprise banking environment. This role involves diagnosing and resolving complex database performance issues and supporting critical banking applications.
Senior Azure SQL DBA - Responsibilities:
- Monitor database performance and identify bottlenecks
- Tune queries and address resource contention
- Collaborate with development teams to optimize application-database interactions
- Conduct capacity planning and scaling strategies
- Perform root cause analysis for critical incidents
Senior Azure SQL DBA - Mandatory Skills:
- 10+ years of experience as a Senior/Expert DBA in Azure SQL environments
- Proven experience managing very large databases (40TB+)
- Strong expertise in Azure SQL PaaS performance tuning and optimization
- Deep knowledge of query plan regressions, parameter sniffing, and cardinality estimation issues
- Hands-on experience with Query Store and execution plan analysis
- Advanced T-SQL performance tuning skills
- Expertise in DTU/vCore models and Hyperscale architecture
Senior Azure SQL DBA – Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights
- Knowledge of Azure SQL security features
- Experience with disaster recovery and geo-replication strategies
- Understanding of database access control and security best practices
- Exposure to Dynatrace for performance monitoring
Senior Azure SQL DBA – Assignment Length:
This is a 6-month contract position with potential for extension or conversion to full-time.
