Job Summary
We are seeking an Experienced Arborist Assistant who is more than just a laborer. You are the "engine" of the job site, responsible for supporting the climber, managing technical rigging, and maintaining a high-performance flow. We need someone who anticipates the needs of the crew, operates heavy machinery with precision, and takes pride in a safe, professional setup.
Core Responsibilities
- Climber Support: Manage ropes, set up rigging systems (friction brakes/blocks), and clear the drop zone in real-time.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate wood chippers, stump grinders, and compact loaders (e.g., Avant/Dingo).
- Technical Rigging: Assist in the controlled lowering of wood using essential arborist knots (Running Bowline, Clove Hitch, Cow Hitch).
- Site Management: Maintain 360-degree situational awareness; ensure all safety zones are marked and respected.
- Gear Maintenance: Perform daily chainsaw maintenance (fueling/sharpening) and assist with equipment inspections.
- Driving: Safely operate company trucks and trailers, including backing into tight residential driveways.
Technical Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of professional experience in tree care or utility line clearing.
- Licensing: Minimum Valid Class G License with a clean driver’s abstract (required for insurance).
- Communication: Clear, concise communication skills—vital for high-noise environments and hand signals.
- Physicality: High stamina for outdoor work in all weather and the ability to lift 50+ lbs consistently.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with tree identification and basic industry safety standards is a major asset.
