J Basra Trucklines Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Dispatch Planner to support daily transportation operations by planning and optimizing freight movements across our fleet.
The Dispatch Planner will be responsible for building efficient load plans, assigning equipment, minimizing empty miles, and ensuring optimal utilization of drivers and trailers. This role works closely with dispatchers, drivers, and operations management to maintain service levels and maximize fleet productivity.
Key ResponsibilitiesLoad & Route Planning
- Plan and coordinate daily freight movements across company trucks and trailers.
- Optimize routes and load assignments to reduce empty miles and maximize revenue per truck.
- Ensure loads are scheduled according to pickup/delivery appointments and transit times.
- Balance freight volumes with available equipment and driver availability.
- Identify opportunities for reloads and backhauls.
Fleet Utilization
- Monitor driver hours-of-service and available driving hours when planning loads.
- Ensure proper trailer allocation (dry van, reefer, specialized equipment).
- Coordinate equipment positioning to support upcoming freight demand.
- Maintain optimal truck and trailer utilization levels.
Coordination with Dispatch
- Work closely with dispatchers to communicate load plans and driver assignments.
- Adjust plans as needed due to operational changes, delays, or breakdowns.
- Provide dispatch with clear instructions for executing the daily plan.
Performance Monitoring
- Track key operational metrics such as:
- On-time pickup and delivery
- Empty miles
- Truck utilization
- Load profitability
- Identify operational inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
Systems & Reporting
- Plan and manage loads within the Transportation Management System (TMS).
- Maintain accurate planning data and shipment schedules.
- Support operational reporting and planning analysis.
Qualifications
- 2+ years experience in transportation planning, dispatch, or logistics operations preferred.
- Strong understanding of trucking operations and freight scheduling.
- Experience with TransPlus TMS software and logistics planning tools.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
