Position Summary
Keziah Childcare Centre is seeking a caring, dependable, and enthusiastic Early Childhood Assistant to support our infant, toddler, and preschool programs.
The successful candidate will work closely with Registered Early Childhood Educators and other team members to provide high-quality care, supervision, and programming for children.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning and implementation of age-appropriate, play-based learning experiences.
- Support children’s physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and language development.
- Maintain active supervision of children at all times.
- Assist children with daily routines, including meals, toileting, diapering, dressing, rest periods, and transitions.
- Create and maintain a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
- Observe children’s interests, development, and participation in activities.
- Assist with documenting children’s learning experiences and developmental progress.
- Build positive and respectful relationships with children, families, colleagues, and community partners.
- Communicate professionally with parents and guardians regarding children’s daily experiences.
- Follow all centre policies, procedures, health and safety requirements, and licensing regulations.
- Maintain classroom cleanliness and ensure toys, equipment, and learning materials are properly cleaned and sanitized.
- Support children with diverse abilities, cultures, languages, and individual needs.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, training, and centre events.
- Report any concerns regarding children’s health, safety, development, or well-being to the classroom RECE or Supervisor.
- Perform other childcare-related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Early Childhood Assistant certificate, diploma, or relevant childcare education is preferred.
- Previous experience working with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, or school-age children is an asset.
- Knowledge of Ontario’s How Does Learning Happen? framework is an asset.
- Basic understanding of the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 and applicable licensing requirements.
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification, or willingness to obtain it before starting employment.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check acceptable to the centre.
- Up-to-date immunization and medical documentation as required for employment in a licensed childcare setting.
- Ability to provide a satisfactory employment reference.
- Strong communication, teamwork, organization, and time-management skills.
- Patient, caring, dependable, respectful, and professional.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff.
- Ability to respond calmly and appropriately during emergencies.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a childcare team.
- Ability to lift children, sit on the floor, bend, stand, walk, and participate in indoor and outdoor activities.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a licensed childcare centre.
- Experience supporting children with special needs or diverse abilities.
- Training in behaviour guidance, child development, or inclusive childcare practices.
- Food Handler Certification is considered an asset.
- Additional language skills are considered an asset.
