About the Role:
We are looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Payroll Specialist with extensive experience administering payroll across both the United States and Canada. This role requires a proactive, solutions-focused professional with strong expertise in Dayforce, deep knowledge of payroll and tax regulations in both countries, and the ability to resolve complex payroll issues with precision. The successful candidate will serve as the primary escalation point within the payroll team and bring experience managing unionized payrolls and cross-border compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the lead contact for escalated payroll issues, providing expert guidance and troubleshooting resolution.
- Process accurate and timely payroll for US and Canadian employees using Dayforce, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Administer garnishments, levies, and wage attachments in accordance with federal, state, provincial, and local laws.
- Respond to and resolve payroll tax notices, ensuring full compliance.
- Interpret and apply payroll-related tax rules, including statutory deductions, remittances, and garnishments for both US and Canada.
- Manage payroll for unionized employees, ensuring adherence to collective agreements.
- Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to maintain payroll data integrity and support reporting needs.
- Identify and implement process improvements and innovative payroll solutions.
- Prepare payroll reports, reconciliations, and analytics for internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate payroll records in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation.
- Assist with year-end reporting and tax form processing (e.g., T4, RL-1, W-2).
- Provide support to the Payroll Manager on payroll and tax-related projects.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5- 8 years’ experience processing high-volume, complex payrolls in both unionized and non-unionized environments across Canada and the US.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Dayforce HRIS system Payroll Module
- Strong understanding of US and Canadian payroll tax regulations.
- Advanced Excel skills (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, data analysis).
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- PCP certification is required.
- Knowledge of federal, state/provincial tax reporting, WSIB, EHT, EI UI, and other statutory requirements.
- Experience with accounting principles and payroll-related financial processes is considered an asset.
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Disclosures:
- Compensation: The salary range for this position is $75,000 – $85,000 per year.
