The Material Handler / Coordinator is responsible for receiving, organizing, tracking, and distributing raw materials and finished goods within a custom fabrication shop. This role ensures accurate receiving and handling of plate, pipe, and related materials, along with all associated shipping and receiving documentation. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, understands material specifications, and is experienced with logistics and paperwork related to industrial materials.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Receive and unload of incoming shipments of plate, pipe, and other material; verify quantities and specifications against purchase orders and packing slips
Ensure materials are not damaged during the offloading process
Inspect and reject any damaged/defective goods & material
Match packing slips with purchase orders and receipt entry into system
Ensure all documents are accurately completed and forwarded to the correct parties
Store and organize material in designated areas
Organize and maintain warehouse space
Organize stocks and maintain inventory
Pick and pack items from inventory for other divisions when required
Process and package material/equipment to be shipped
Load trucks, ensure required documentation is complete
Prepare necessary shipping documents, maintain accurate records of shipments
Ensure loads are safely secured and tied up to the truck
Load and unload company vehicles, if required
Move and park company vehicles, if required
Garbage collection, including cardboard
Cut pipe as needed for other divisions
Other duties and responsibilities as required
Skills/Qualifications
2+ years of experience in a fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial environment
Strong understanding of plate, pipe, and structural material types and specifications
Familiarity with shipping/receiving documentation (BOLs, MTRs, Receiving Reports, Packing Slips, etc.)
Experience operating forklifts, Raymond reach, overhead cranes, or similar equipment (certification preferred)
Ability to read and interpret work orders, material lists, basic drawings and a tape measure
Valid G Licence an asset
Exceptional knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) & Adobe Acrobat
A positive attitude, strong team skills, and display leadership qualities
Ability to follow instructions and proactively approach project supervisors or others with questions and/or to seek clarification
Ability to multitask and problem solve in a high-pressure work environment
Willing to travel to pickup or delivery material as required
