Project Manager – Heavy Civil & Underground Utilities

Marwest Industries Ltd. is an established heavy civil contractor serving the East and West Kootenay regions of British Columbia. With offices in Cranbrook and Castlegar, we deliver municipal, industrial, utility, and infrastructure projects including underground utilities, water and sewer systems, road construction, earthworks, and site development.
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our Cranbrook team. This position is specifically for a candidate with proven experience in heavy civil construction and underground utilities.
Applicants must have direct project management experience in heavy civil construction. Candidates without relevant heavy civil, underground utility, roadworks, or earthworks experience will not be considered.
This is a hands-on role for a construction professional who enjoys problem-solving, collaborating with both field and office teams, and delivering successful infrastructure projects that support the communities and industries we serve.
Required Experience
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- 5+ years of project management experience in heavy civil construction
- Experience with underground utilities, watermain, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, roadworks, and earthworks
- Strong understanding of civil construction drawings, specifications, and contract administration
What You'll Do
- Lead heavy civil construction projects from startup to closeout.
- Work closely with management, office staff, superintendents, foremen, and crews to plan and execute projects successfully.
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, equipment, materials, and project resources.
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, forecasts, productivity, and cost performance.
- Review drawings, specifications, contracts, RFIs, change orders, and submittals.
- Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, municipalities, and utility owners.
- Support estimating, procurement, quantity tracking, invoicing, progress claims, and project reporting.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contractual requirements.
Additional Qualifications
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with both field and office teams.
- Experience with MMCD and CCDC2 contracts considered an asset.
- Experience with municipal, utility, BC Hydro, industrial, or mining projects considered an asset.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- Ability to travel to project sites throughout the region as required.
