Mercer Celgar is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Operational Excellence Team as a Process Control Specialist/Engineer.
Reporting to Manager, Operational Excellence the Process Control Specialist/Engineer is responsible for providing technical and engineering expertise to the Operations and Maintenance departments in order to support the mill’s safety, environmental, cost, quality and reliability performance objectives.
- Monitor, evaluate, and report on process control strategy efficacy and routine activities.
- Troubleshoot and solve problems related to automation hardware, software, and control elements.
- Plan and execute new automation strategies to improve operational outcomes.
- Manage the full lifecycle of operational technology hardware and software.
- Support capital engineering and maintenance departments with technical expertise.
- Develop and maintain process control standards, policies, and technical documentation.
- Perform and participate in formal risk assessments including PHA, HAZOP, and LOPA for process changes.
- This position may require occasional supervision of unionized tradespersons and contractors while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- A Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, or Controls preferred) OR an equivalent technical diploma/trade certification (e.g., Instrumentation Technician or Electrician) paired with relevant industrial controls experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience in a Process Control oriented role.
- Proficiency with electrical and instrumentation systems and documentation, including P&IDs, control narratives, loop drawings, and motor control schematics.
- Experience with automation network infrastructure management.
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles and standards from an operational technology perspective.
- Experience with function block and ladder logic programming.
- Familiarity with DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems such as Bailey Infi90, DeltaV, GE RX3i, and Allen Bradley GuardLogix is highly valued.
- Experience with structured problem solving methodologies such as lean manufacturing and six sigma.
- Experience with Process Safety Management.
- Experience in a continuous manufacturing environment with a preference for the pulp and paper industry.

The salary for this position is $92,000.00 - 158,000.00. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
