The Department of Radiology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Medical Radiation Technologist. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension for at least up to 5 years.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
The MRT will support research being conducted in the Bone Imaging Laboratory which is part of the Center for Mobility and Joint Health (MoJo) by conducting imaging required for human and veterinarian studies using digital radiography and other modalities. It is a dynamic and exciting clinical research environment. The incumbent will assist in mentoring and training new staff, technologists and students as required. They will lead data collection efforts in relation to radiology equipment and will appropriately analyze the data collected. The MRT will support clinical imaging being conducted at the facility by conducting both pediatric and adult imaging for clinical purposes for multiple partners.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Project Management:

Prepare area for research project support

Liaise and refer with Scientific and Health Care teams as appropriate

Collaborates with study teams to determine feasibility of project within Centre
-
Technical parameter development
-
Liaise between research team and sponsors regarding technical information
-
Propose and negotiate alternatives for protocol implementation
-
Processing of regulatory documentation
-
Assist with the development and delivery of technical study information to ensure participants understand appropriate information prior to scanning
-
Identify educational opportunities and other resources to support physicians, scientists and study teams in their research studies
-
Recommend strategies to further facilitate projects and initiatives within the Centre and across services for study and clinical teams
-
Reviews and identifies project limitations during intake as they pertain to the equipment and technologist role. Corresponds with manager to make suggestions for overcoming these limitations and/or works with study teams and technical staff to schedule mock appointments for testing a full run through of requirements
Data Analysis:

Assist in obtaining, preparing, writing, and compiling materials for physicians, scientists and ethics as necessary

Ensure projects are handled in an effective and efficient manner while recognizing the importance of maintaining documentation for each study supported within the Centre
Quality Assurance and Evaluation:

Develop technical Standard Operating Procedures as appropriate to maintain regulatory compliance and recommend the development of policies to support initiatives as appropriate

Assesses technical competency of staff and students using the various equipment in the MoJo and corresponds with Operations Manager to make suggestions on whether further training is necessary

Support the evaluation and reporting of activities in the Bone Imaging Laboratory

Train and mentor new staff and students on equipment and through technical workflows as appropriate

Lead Preventative Maintenance program on MRI and address equipment errors as necessary

Maintain the operational readiness and quality control of the equipment, including radiation safety equipment

Conduct inspections, perform moderately complex troubleshooting and correct and report as appropriate
Qualifications / Requirements:
-
Medical Radiation Technologist (Radiological) registered with the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT) is required

Enhanced practice authorization from the ACMDTT in CT of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) Computed Tomography Imaging Certificate (CTIC) are preferred

Certification by the Canadian Society of Clinical Bone Densitometry (CSCD), or by an equivalent program, such as that offered by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD), is an asset

5+ years experience performing computed tomography studies is preferred
-
5+ years experience performing digital radiography studies is preferred
-
5+ years experience performing bone mineral densitometry (BMD) using a Hologic or Lunar scanner is an asset
-
Basic Cardiac Life Support, Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) required
-
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
-
Ability to travel internationally; ad hoc travel to USA and other international sites is required

Ability to pay attention to detail and accurately perform work
-
Ability to demonstrate tact and courtesy in dealing with patients, staff and physicians
-
Ability to consent patients who are participating in research and assist them in completing questionnaires
-
Practices effective radiation protection, infection control and safety techniques as applicable

Advanced computer skills are an asset
