Progressive Fabrication Inc. is growing and actively recruiting a Journeyman/woman Welder to join our team. Reporting to the Branch Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the fabrication, fitting, welding, and repair of structural steel and custom metal components in accordance with company quality standards, applicable codes, and customer specifications. This role requires a highly skilled tradesperson capable of working independently, interpreting technical drawings, and contributing to a safe and productive work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Interpret and work from blueprints, fabrication drawings, welding procedures, and work orders.
- Perform layout, fitting, fabrication, and welding of structural steel and custom metal components.
- Inspect welds for quality, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with project specifications and applicable codes.
- Operate fabrication equipment including grinders, cutting torches, saws, drills, and other shop machinery.
- Measure, mark, and align materials using precision measuring instruments and layout tools.
- Select appropriate welding processes, consumables, and equipment based on material type and project requirements.
- Perform repairs, modifications, and rework of welded assemblies as required.
- Troubleshoot fabrication and welding issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain welding equipment and ensure tools are used safely and effectively.
- Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical support to apprentices.
- Collaborate with shop personnel, and other departments to meet production schedules and quality standards.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and safety.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Registered Journeyman Welder
- Previous shop, fabrication, or industrial experience is considered an asset
- Forklift certification is an asset
- Physically fit with the ability to perform manual labour tasks
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills
- Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious
Working Conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Work performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with seasonal temperature fluctuations
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required
- Overtime and weekend work may be required based on operational needs
