Position Title: Lead Hand – Landscape Construction

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Hand to oversee daily operations on landscape construction sites. The successful candidate will lead crews in the installation of interlocking stone, retaining walls, grading, excavation, and other hardscape and landscape construction projects while safely operating heavy equipment and ensuring projects are completed efficiently and to high quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise landscape construction crews on residential and commercial projects
- Coordinate daily site activities and assign tasks to crew members
- Install interlocking pavers, walkways, patios, driveways, steps, and retaining walls
- Perform site preparation including excavation, grading, compaction, and drainage work
- Operate heavy equipment such as skid steers, mini excavators, loaders, compactors, and dump trailers
- Read and interpret landscape and construction drawings, layouts, and grade plans
- Ensure all work is completed according to project specifications and company quality standards
- Maintain a safe and organized job site and enforce health and safety procedures
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients on site
- Train and mentor crew members and labourers
- Track materials, equipment usage, and project progress
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in landscape construction or hardscaping
- Strong experience with interlocking stone installation and hardscape construction
- Experience operating heavy equipment in a construction environment
- Ability to lead crews and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of grading, excavation, drainage, and construction best practices
- Ability to read construction and landscape plans
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Valid G driver’s license with clean abstract
- Ability to lift heavy materials and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Preferred Skills
- Experience with retaining wall systems and natural stone work
- Familiarity with laser levels and grading equipment
- Understanding of Ontario construction safety regulations
Working Conditions
- Outdoor construction environment
- Physically demanding work including lifting, digging, and equipment operation
- Overtime and occasional weekend work may be required during peak season
Compensation & Benefits

$30–$40 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.
