Chinese Community Policing Centre (CCPC) is looking for a responsible and passionate self-starter to join our team as a full-time Victim Services Worker on a 6-month contract to provide dedicated leave of absence coverage. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will be working closely with the rest of our staff to serve Mandarin/Cantonese-speaking victims of crime, support the development and running of our crime-prevention projects & programs, and facilitate the liaison with our external partners to coordinate workshops and special events. The contract comes with the possibility of extension based on organizational needs.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
In this role, you will be expected to:
- Perform victim services work by handling victim services cases under the supervision of Victim Services Coordinator
- Review clients’ case information, interview clients to obtain case history and prepare case logs
- Assist clients to evaluate options and develop plans of action while providing necessary support and assistance
- Assess and advise clients on eligibility for social and/or legal assistance
- Refer clients to other social service organizations and/or assist clients in locating and utilizing community resources including legal, medical, and financial assistance, housing, employment, transportation, day care and other services
- Meet with clients face-to-face or virtually to assess their progress, provide additional support, and assist them in any difficulties or problems
- Provide victim services intervention and emergency shelter services
- Maintain contact with police authorities, legal/crown counsels, hospitals, and other social service agencies involved with clients to provide information and obtain feedback on clients’ overall progress
- Supervise co-op students and volunteers in events and workshops relevant to victim services work
- Manage and coordinate selected projects related (but not limited) to victim services work
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Social Science (criminology preferred), with 1 year of relevant working experience
- Fluency in written and verbal English and Mandarin/Cantonese
- Possess strong interpersonal & communication skills, empathy, and be culturally sensitive
- Highly organized, resourceful, and be able to navigate complex systems like the criminal justice system
- Understanding of the criminal justice system, safety planning, and confidentiality requirements
- Understanding of crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
- Ability to coordinate multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Problem-solving and sound judgement
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a team
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Must pass and maintain a criminal record check by the Vancouver Police Department
Working Conditions
Workplace Mode: In-Person
Location: 44 E Pender St Vancouver BC V6A 3V6
Hours: Mondays to Fridays 9.30am to 4.30pm
Compensation
$20.00/hour plus 4% vacation rate pay
Pay: $20.00 per hour
