Job Summary
Safe, economical and efficient operation of the vessel with special consideration for the safety of the crew, protection of the marine environment, cost management and the quality of service. The current position is for the Canpac Valkyrie an 87.1-meter, DP2, ice-classed multi-purpose offshore supply and subsea cable vessel.
Key Responsibilities
- General management of the vessel.
- Crew/Personnel management.
- Ensuring the safety of crew, vessel, and cargo.
- Ensuring the day-to-day upkeep of the vessel.
- Ensuring the quality of service.
- Communication with Divers, ROV Operators and Project Personnel, clients’ representatives, shore management.
- Responsible for the supervision and care of dangerous goods onboard.
- Training and instruction of deck watchkeepers.
- Planning and supervision of deck maintenance.
- Responsible for the seaworthiness of the vessel prior to departure.
- Issuing orders in a clear and concise manner;
- Ensuring all vessel activities comply with the intent of the company's safety and environmental policy.
- Reporting defects to the company;
- Identifying and addressing on-board training needs of the crew;
- Assigning duties to the crew taking into account their training and experience;
- Reviewing the Company's Safety Management System manual and reporting deficiencies to the DP;
- Reporting accidents involving the vessel or crew to the DP.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Master Mariner COC
- Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical
- DP Unlimited
- STCW Marien Emergency Duties Training
- Vessel Personnel with Security Responsibilities or Ship Security Officer training
- Marine First Aid
- GOC Radio Certificate
- WHMIS 2015
