HVAC/Plumbing Estimator (Residential & Commercial) Job Summary
We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented HVAC Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for residential and commercial HVAC/Plumbing projects, including new construction, renovations, tenant fit-outs, and retrofit work. The estimator will work closely with project managers, sales staff, suppliers, and clients to ensure proposals are complete, accurate, and aligned with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review project drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Perform quantity take-offs for HVAC/Plumbing equipment/systems, ductwork, piping, controls, insulation, and accessories.
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, permits, and miscellaneous project expenses.
- Request and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Analyze project scope and identify value engineering opportunities.
- Prepare detailed proposals and bid packages.
- Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, and project walkthroughs when required.
- Communicate with customers, consultants, engineers, architects, and general contractors regarding project requirements.
- Maintain estimating databases, pricing, labor units, and historical cost information.
- Assist with budgeting, scheduling, and project handoff to operations after award.
- Review contract documents to ensure project scope matches the submitted estimate.
- Identify project risks and recommend solutions before bid submission.
- Stay current with industry pricing, products, building codes, and construction practices.
- Work collaboratively with project managers and field staff throughout the estimating process.
Qualifications:
Minimum 3–5 years of HVAC/Plumbing estimating experience (residential, commercial, or both).
- Strong understanding of HVAC and Plumbing systems, including:
- Forced air systems
- Heat pumps
- Air conditioning systems
- Gas furnaces
- Rooftop units (RTUs)
- VRF/VRV systems
- Chillers and boilers (commercial experience preferred)
- Ventilation and make-up air systems
- Sheet metal ductwork
- Hydronic piping systems
- Domestic water
- Sanitary
- Storm
- Specialty piping.
Other:
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, mechanical plans, and specifications.
- Knowledge of local building codes and HVAC standards.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Experience with estimating software and digital take-off tools is an asset.
- Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities After Project Award:
- Conduct project handoff meetings with project managers.
- Review estimate assumptions and scope inclusions/exclusions.
- Provide equipment selections, supplier quotations, and pricing documentation.
- Assist with change orders and pricing revisions as needed.
- Support project teams with cost analysis throughout construction.
Working Conditions:
- Office-based with occasional travel to project sites.
- Ability to meet tender deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Standard Monday–Friday 7am-3:30pm work schedule
Pay: $30.00-$50.00 per hour
