Job Overview – Support Worker (12-Hour Day Shifts)
We are seeking reliable, compassionate, and trauma-informed Support Workers to join our Bright Pathways foster home team. Our homes support high-risk youth with complex needs, including trauma histories, addictions, mental health challenges, grief, and instability.
We are a double-staffed, team-based environment where consistency, healthy boundaries, and emotional safety are the foundation of everything we do.
Support Workers play a critical role in maintaining structure, safety, and positive daily routines within the home. This position is ideal for individuals who are patient, grounded, confident in crisis-prevention, and passionate about supporting vulnerable youth in their healing, growth, and stabilization.
Available shifts:
- 12-hour day shifts (9:00 AM – 9:00 PM)
- Weekday and/or weekend availability
- Currently seeking staff specifically available Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, with occasional Saturday or Sunday shifts as needed
Responsibilities
Supervision & Safety
- Maintain a safe, structured, and stable home environment during all shift hours.
- Provide active supervision of youth both in the home and in the community.
- Monitor for signs of substance use, mental health concerns, or escalating behaviours and respond using trauma-informed practices.
- Follow home protocols for incident response, safety planning, room checks, and AWOL prevention.
Youth Support
- Build safe, professional, supportive relationships with youth using trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches.
- Support youth with daily routines including hygiene, meals, school attendance, appointments, and independent living skills.
- Provide emotional support, mentorship, and regulation strategies when youth are struggling.
- Encourage positive coping skills, healthy routines, and engagement in constructive activities.
Programming & Community Engagement
- Plan and participate in structured daily activities such as recreation, outings, cultural programming, life skills, and wellness activities.
- Support youth with transportation to appointments, school, programming, and community activities.
- Encourage participation in cultural, recreational, and recovery-based opportunities that promote stability and growth.
Home & Program Responsibilities
- Prepare meals and snacks and assist youth with cooking and life skills development.
- Maintain a clean and organized home environment through light cleaning, laundry, and shared household responsibilities.
- Support organization of the home and preparation for evening routines and shift transition.
Documentation & Communication
- Complete daily logs, incident reports, and shift communication notes thoroughly and professionally.
- Communicate safety concerns and significant updates promptly to leadership.
- Collaborate closely with other staff to ensure consistent care and follow-through between shifts.
Requirements
Experience & Skills
Experience working in foster care, group homes, addictions, youth care, mental health, or crisis work is an asset.
Training is an asset, including:
- ASIST (suicide intervention)
- NVCI / CPI / de-escalation training
- Trauma-Informed Care
- Addictions awareness, harm reduction, or recovery coaching
- First Aid & CPR
Lived experience with addiction, recovery, or supporting family in addiction is considered an asset when shared appropriately and professionally.
Personal Qualities
- Calm, grounded, and able to remain regulated during crisis situations.
- Strong understanding of boundaries and maintaining professional relationships with youth.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain structure and consistency during shifts.
- Compassionate, non-judgmental, and committed to supporting youth where they are at in their healing journey.
Other Requirements
- Valid driver’s license is required.
- Must pass a Child Abuse Registry Check and Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a highly collaborative team environment.
