Controller
Location: Calgary, Alberta
Salary Range: $90,000 to $110,000
Position Summary
Air Chek is seeking a Controller to lead the company's accounting and financial reporting functions, maintain strong internal controls, and provide accurate, timely financial information to support business decisions. This is a senior accounting role that requires a professional accounting designation and includes responsibility for supervising the Bookkeepers in the Edmonton and Vancouver offices.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes and ensure accurate and timely internal financial reporting.
· Prepare, review, and approve journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting working papers.
· Oversee the integrity of the general ledger and ensure balance sheet and key income statement accounts are properly reconciled and supported.
· Manage cash flow monitoring and forecasting to support operational planning and financial stability.
· Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, expense reporting, and customer credit review processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with company policies.
· Support and review revenue recognition for job-related and project-based transactions.
· Coordinate year-end working papers and support external accountants with trial balance preparation and year-end reporting.
· Maintain and strengthen accounting procedures, approval controls, and fraud-prevention practices, including vendor banking verification and related safeguards.
· Supervise, support, and provide direction to the Bookkeepers in the Edmonton and Vancouver offices, including workload coordination, process consistency, training, and performance support.
· Lead the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis in partnership with leadership.
· Provide management with financial analysis and insights related to branch performance, margins, overhead, and working capital.
· Oversee inventory accounting, including valuation, reconciliations, inventory controls, and coordination with operations to support accurate reporting.
· Monitor job costing, project margins, and revenue recognition to ensure costs and profitability are accurately captured and reported.
· Work closely with operations and leadership to identify financial risks, process gaps, and opportunities for efficiency and margin improvement.
· Standardize accounting processes and reporting practices across Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver to improve consistency and control.
· Assist with policy development, process documentation, and other accounting, administrative, and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
· Professional accounting designation required, such as CPA.
· Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with senior-level accounting or controllership experience preferred.
· Strong knowledge of financial reporting, reconciliations, month-end close, cash flow management, budgeting, and internal controls.
· Experience with inventory accounting, job costing, and multi-location financial management is strongly preferred.
· Experience supervising accounting support staff across multiple locations is an asset.
· Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and a high level of accuracy.
· Proficient with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
· Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with operational and leadership teams.
Preferred Background
· Experience in a multi-location business environment.
· Experience in HVAC, mechanical, construction, service, distribution, or project-based accounting is considered an asset.
· Ability to balance hands-on accounting responsibilities with team leadership and continuous process improvement.
Compensation
This position offers a salary range of $90,000 to $110,000, based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.
Pay: $90,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
