JOB SUMMARY:
At Freedom Boat Club Nova Scotia, our Members enjoy all the pleasures of boating without the responsibilities of boat ownership. Delivering that exceptional experience begins with our Dock Crew.
As the first and last point of contact for our Members each day, Dock Crew provide a welcoming, concierge-style experience while ensuring every boating trip begins and ends safely, efficiently, and professionally. Our team takes pride in creating a "red carpet" experience, where Members feel valued, cared for, and excited to return.
Responsibilities include greeting Members upon arrival, assisting with loading personal belongings, preparing clean and fully equipped boats for departure, conducting pre-departure safety checks, and helping Members and their guests board safely. Upon their return, Dock Staff assist with docking and disembarking, complete post-trip inspections, process fuel payments, and ensure each vessel is cleaned, refuelled, and prepared for the next Member.
This position combines outstanding customer service with attention to detail, teamwork, and a strong commitment to safety. Dock Crew are ambassadors for Freedom Boat Club and play a vital role in creating memorable experiences on the water for every Member. in Freedom Boat Club promises that our Club Members can expect to enjoy all the positive experiences of boating without the cares of boat ownership, and our Dock Crew have a key role in delivering on this promise. As the front-line agents of our Club when Members show up at the dock, our Dock Crew provide concierge-type, red carpet service. From greeting the Members and helping them bring/load their belongings to the immaculately clean boat, ensuring Members and their guests board the boats safely, and checking them out before they leave the dock until (upon their return from boating) helping them un-board safely, checking them in, taking their gas payment and helping them back to their vehicles, Dock Crew ensure our Members enjoy true boating freedom!
Minimum Requirements:
- Friendly, outgoing personality with exceptional customer service skills
- Weekend and Weekday availability is required
- Independent transportation to/from and between Club locations
- PCOC required (before starting work)
- Ability to operate boats in fleet safely and competently (must pass New Member Orientation that is provided on-the-job)
- Electronics knowledge and Utilization (e.g. Smart Phone, Tablet)
- Drug-Free
- Professional Communication Skills with co-workers, Members, guests
Work Environment:
- Outdoor work environment (exposure to cold, rain, heat, wind, fog, some extreme weather conditions)
- Remaining on feet for long periods of time
- Shifts can be all day (up to 12 hours)
- Staff must be able to work at two sites – i.e. Kings Wharf Marina and Shining Waters Marine
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to be on feet for extended periods of time
- Flexibility to enable reaching for cleaning boats, etc.
- Sufficient strength to pull ropes to help dock boats safely
- Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds
Sample Duties:
- Ensure well-groomed, professional appearance and wear uniform provided
- Clean vessels (daily usage and weekly deep cleaning)
- Minor maintenance tasks (e.g. bilge pump, depth finder, prop, trouble-shooting)
- Ensure dock area free from tripping hazards
- Provide red carpet level treatment to Members and guests
- Check-in/Finalize vessels with members (moving from docks to boats and vice versa)
- Inspect boats prior to departure and upon return (take pictures as necessary)
- Document minor Member mishaps while maintaining a friendly disposition
- Daily paperwork (e.g. fuel log, data entry, daily usage and grid)
- Greet visitors/potential members to the dock and talk about the Club
- Other duties as required
Additional Information
- Hourly pay for hours worked
- Vacation Pay = 4%
- Weather-related closings or short usage may result in shorter shifts
- Direct Deposit of pay to Bank or Credit Union required
- Unscheduled absences or ‘no-shows’ are not tolerated
- Schedule is prepared at least 2 weeks in advance; Requests for time off should be made prior to schedule being made
- Schedule personal medical and other appointments outside scheduled working hours
- Dock Master approval required for trading shifts with other dock staff
Pay: From $18.50 per hour
