The YMCA of Southern Interior BC has a child care growth plan that currently operates 14 child care locations, serves over 900 families and is on target to serve up to 1100 families by building and opening several more child care centers over the next few years.
Reporting to the Child Care Manager you will fulfill a wide range of duties relating to transporting school age children by van or bus to and from their schools. The regular hours of this position will be Monday to Friday from 7:00am-9:00am and 1:30pm-3:30pm and will include additional hours for monthly staff training, early dismissal days and during spring and summer break programs.
- Safely operate the vehicle in compliance with provincial and YMCA standards.
- Ensure safety and supervision standards are upheld at all times.
- Maintain security of the vehicle and ensure children remain seated with seatbelts fastened.
- Support children getting on/off the bus and release them only to authorized individuals (ID verification required).
- Complete the Pre-Trip paperwork daily
- Support child care leaders in supervising children aged 5–12.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, and staff using YMCA core values.
- Encourage respectful and inclusive interactions among children.
- Follow all YMCA and provincial licensing policies and procedures.
- Valid B.C. Class 4 (Unrestricted) or Class 2 operator/driver’s license, providing a clean drivers abstract every 12 months
- Have completed a course or a combination of courses of a least 20 hours duration in child development, child guidance, and/or health and safety, or nutrition. The YMCA may provide financial support to help attain this certification.
- Current First Aid certification with CPR level B or C. The YMCA may provide financial support to help attain this certification.

- Service Orientated: Deliberately identifies and creates opportunities to enhance each and every individual's YMCA experience. Creates action plans to resolve any service gap areas.
- Relationship Building and Collaboration: Builds positive interactions, listens attentively, and communicates effectively to create an open communication environment. Share information, best practices, and resources with colleagues.
As part of a trusted charitable organization, you can expect to receive excellent services and safety training throughout your YMCA career. As the first step in your journey, you will be required to:
- Provide 3 references of a professional nature (Ex. employer, supervisor, colleague, teacher, coach, etc.)
- Provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date. The YMCA will provide applicable instructions and paperwork.
