In business since 1970, Copcan Civil has successfully completed projects across Vancouver Island and the BC Interior, including highways, bridge construction, underground utilities, demolition, marine infrastructure, private development, and municipal works.
Copcan Civil is currently seeking experienced Vac Truck Operators to join our team in the Kootenays region. This role involves operating hydrovac/vacuum trucks to support underground utility, civil, and construction projects across the area. Work locations may include Rossland, Trail, Castlegar, Cranbrook, and surrounding communities.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Safely operate a vacuum truck (hydrovac) to perform daylighting, trenching, debris removal, and excavation support

Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure equipment is safe and operational

Operate high-pressure water and vacuum systems safely and efficiently

Expose underground utilities while minimizing risk of damage

Follow all site-specific safety requirements, company policies, and WorkSafeBC regulations

Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and site personnel

Maintain accurate daily logs, inspection reports, and required documentation

Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of the truck and equipment

Work collaboratively with crews to support project timelines and site needs

Travel to various job sites throughout the Kootenays as required
What we’re looking for:

Previous experience operating a vac truck or hydrovac equipment preferred

Valid Class 3 Driver’s Licence (Class 1 considered an asset) with a clean driving record

Knowledge of underground utilities and safe excavation practices is an asset

Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Strong safety awareness and attention to detail

Good communication skills, both written and verbal

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Reliable, punctual, and professional work ethic

Willingness to travel throughout the Kootenays region for project work

Mechanical aptitude and experience performing equipment checks is an asset

No smoking policy in company vehicles
Compensation:
This is a union position, and the hourly wage range is $35 - $38 per hour (wage subject to negotiation based on candidate’s experience and class of licence)
