Position Summary
The Junior Estimator supports the estimating team in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for civil excavation and infrastructure projects. Reporting directly to the Senior Estimator, this role is ideal for a recent graduate or someone with 1–2 years of experience working in the construction industry for either a contractor or consultant.
In this role, you will assist with quantity take-offs, subcontractor and supplier pricing, bid preparation, and project documentation for ICI and municipal projects. You will gain hands-on exposure to excavation, earthworks, underground servicing, and heavy civil construction while learning estimating best practices from an experienced team.
A typical day may involve reviewing drawings and specifications, performing quantity calculations, gathering pricing from vendors and subcontractors, assisting with bid submissions, and supporting project handovers to operations teams. This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in estimating and construction management within a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in monitoring bidding platforms and identifying potential project opportunities.
- Support the estimating team by reviewing drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
- Perform quantity take-offs for earthworks, underground servicing, roadworks, granulars, pipework, asphalt, and other civil construction scopes.
- Assist with gathering and organizing pricing from subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
- Help prepare bid submissions, scopes, clarifications, and supporting documentation.
- Participate in site visits to better understand project conditions and scope requirements.
- Assist with analyzing project risks, productivity considerations, and construction methods.
- Maintain organized estimate files, bid documents, and project records.
- Support handover meetings between estimating and operations teams following successful bids.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams to better understand construction operations and costing.
- Assist with pricing change orders and scope modifications as required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to estimating systems, workflows, and processes.
- Perform additional duties as required to support project and operational needs.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Civil Engineering Technology diploma, Construction Engineering Technology diploma, Construction Management education, or related post-secondary program preferred.
- Ideal for a recent graduate or someone with 1–2 years of experience working in the civil construction industry, either with a contractor, consultant, or related construction environment.
- Basic understanding of excavation, underground servicing, grading, roadworks, and heavy civil construction practices is considered an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Comfortable working with numbers, measurements, and spreadsheets.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and general computer software. Experience with estimating software such as Bid2Win, Civil 3D, Kubla, or similar platforms is considered an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Eagerness to learn, ask questions, and grow within the construction industry.

Pay: $55,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
