Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced and technically proficient Two-Way Radio Technician & Field Specialist to join our team. In this dual-function role, you will handle both bench-level technical work — including radio programming, repairs, testing, and calibration — as well as field deployments such as repeater and antenna installations. You will also interact directly with clients during installations and on-site service calls, representing F&E Communications with professionalism and expertise.
Key Responsibilities

- Install, align, and commission repeater systems and antenna infrastructure at customer sites.
- Conduct site surveys to assess RF coverage, signal strength, and infrastructure requirements.
- Maintain and service rental fleet radios (Motorola R2, CP200d, and others) ensuring units are field-ready.
- Prepare and document service records, repair logs, programming files (codeplugs), and equipment inventories.
- Liaise with clients on-site to explain technical findings, system status, and recommended solutions.
- Support the sales team with technical pre-sale assessments and post-sale deployment.
- Stay current with industry standards, ISED (Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada) licensing requirements, and evolving radio technologies including DMR, analog, and PoC systems.
- Handle accessory assembly and kitting for rental and sales orders.
- Safely transport, handle, and store RF equipment in compliance with company and manufacturer standards.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with two-way radio equipment (portable, mobile, and/or repeater-based systems).
- Demonstrated proficiency with RF test equipment — spectrum analyzers, wattmeters, dummy loads, and signal generators.
- Experience programming radios using manufacturer software across multiple brands (Motorola CPS, Hytera CPS/HMS, or equivalent).
- Solid understanding of radio frequency fundamentals: VHF, UHF, frequency coordination, Groups, Zones CTCSS/DCS tones, and channel planning.
- Hands-on experience with repeater installation, duplexers, antenna systems, coax cabling, and connectors.
- Familiarity with DMR, PoC and TDMA digital protocols.
- Knowledge of ISED (Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada) regulations and radio licensing requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to document work accurately.
