Position Summary
The Education Faculty Lead is a senior Education Faculty position responsible for delivering and evaluating Base Hospital educational programing while providing mentorship, guidance, and operational support to the Education Faculty team. In addition to fulfilling the core responsibilities of an Education Faculty member, the Lead supports faculty development, program consistency, curriculum development, and the continuous improvement of Base Hospital educational programming.
Reporting to the Coordinator, Paramedic Practice, the Education Faculty Lead works closely with Coordinators and Managers of Paramedic Practice to support the planning, development, and delivery of Base Hospital education programs. The role provides informal and functional leadership to approximately 70 casual Education Faculty by supporting faculty orientation, coaching, educational content development, quality assurance, and consistent application of program standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivers and evaluates Base Hospital educational programing, including Annual Certification Education (ACE), Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and Return to Practice (RTP) programming. Facilitates and evaluates certification and equivalency events using Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) methodology.
- Provides mentorship, coaching, and guidance to Education Faculty to support effective teaching, facilitation, learner engagement, evaluation, and professional development. Serves as a resource for instructional and operational questions and provides real-time guidance during educational activities.
- Supports faculty orientation and development by assisting with the onboarding of new Education Faculty, reinforcing expectations for course delivery and evaluation, and contributing to faculty development initiatives.
- Contributes to curriculum development and quality assurance by guiding faculty teams in the development, review, and revision of educational materials, simulation activities, evaluation tools, and course content. Promotes alignment with Base Hospital standards, clinical practice expectations, and established learning objectives.
- Promotes program consistency and continuous improvement by supporting consistent educational delivery and evaluation practices across faculty, providing constructive feedback, and identifying opportunities for improvement based on learner feedback, faculty input, and program evaluation findings.
- Provides operational support and acts as a liaison between Education Faculty and program leadership. Assists Coordinators and Managers of Paramedic Practice with the planning and implementation of educational initiatives and supports communication, issue resolution, and effective program delivery.
Qualifications
Education
- Minimum: College Diploma
- Preferred: Undergraduate Degree in paramedicine, health sciences, education, or a related field
Experience
- Minimum: Two to four years of experience as a Sunnybrook Regional Base Hospital Education Faculty member
- Preferred: Six to nine years of experience in paramedic clinical education, adult education, simulation-based education, or an equivalent environment
Certifications and Professional Qualifications
- Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant certificate
- Ministry of Health Advanced Care Paramedic certification
- Current Sunnybrook Regional Base Hospital Education Faculty member in good standing
Technical Skills and Knowledge
- Demonstrated teaching, facilitation, learner-engagement, and clinical evaluation skills
- Experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting colleagues in an educational or clinical environment
- Experience participating in educational program or curriculum development
- Knowledge of adult-learning principles and instructional practices
- Experience facilitating simulation-based education
- Familiarity with low- and mid-fidelity simulation devices
- Knowledge of audiovisual equipment operation
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams
- Knowledge of Base Hospital educational programs, clinical practice expectations, evaluation processes, and operational procedures
- Ability to apply consistent educational and evaluation standards across different instructors, learners, and delivery environments
