At Comedia, we're not your typical agency. From our offices in San Francisco and Vancouver, we build digital products that matter, working with both scrappy startups and industry giants. We believe in making the complex simple and getting things done without the unnecessary fluff. While we take our work seriously, we don't take ourselves too seriously.
The Role:
We're looking for a Product Designer with strong craft and a bias toward shipping. AI is changing how we research, prototype, and iterate, and we want someone genuinely excited about that. The expectation is that you use those tools to produce better work faster, not as a substitute for design fundamentals. (Remote-friendly, but you must be based in Vancouver, BC, Canada.)
What You'll Actually Do:
- Collaborate with our cross-functional teams to build and ship real products
- Create solutions that deliver measurable value, not just visual polish
- Work directly with clients - from understanding business needs to presenting and defending design decisions
- Craft and build problem-solving processes for different types of projects
- Help us push boundaries while keeping things grounded in reality
- Clearly articulate design decisions and explain your thinking to clients and engineers
- Establish and adapt clear processes while staying adaptable as projects evolve
- Design for agentic products: interfaces where users set a goal and the system handles the steps. This is increasingly where our client work lives
- Use AI to keep things moving. Knowing when not to hand-craft every pixel is a skill. If AI can get an onboarding flow 80% there in hours, spending a week on it is the wrong instinct
You'll Thrive Here If You:
- You take on projects and run with them on your own
- You're comfortable leading client conversations, shaping the brief as much as responding to it, while clearly articulating the rationale behind your decisions
- You apply user-centric design principles with ease, following web and mobile design standards, whilst challenging the status-quo
- You have a sharp eye for design and a deep understanding of how to craft intuitive, impactful user workflows
- Know how to balance user needs with business realities
- Bring fresh perspectives to team discussions while remaining grounded in what's possible
- Want to work with a talented team that celebrates our differences and enjoys solving problems together
What makes you RIGHT for this role:
- You've spent 5-6+ years designing shipped, real-world digital products and have the portfolio to prove it
- You work across the full design stack: product thinking, UX, and UI
- You excel at solving complex problems and pride yourself on being highly self-sufficient
- You're not a researcher, but you can conduct targeted, lightweight research, synthesize key insights, and apply it directly to your design decisions
- Prior experience working with junior designers and providing thoughtful, constructive feedback that helps them grow
- You’re comfortable working in ambiguity and know how to create clarity from chaos by structuring problems, defining direction, and moving forward even when inputs are incomplete or evolving
- You can switch contexts quickly and aren't precious about your work
- You have strong opinions but hold them loosely
- You use AI tools daily (Claude, Figma Make, Gemini, whatever fits the job) to prototype quickly and iterate without waiting for a dev cycle
- You've designed for AI-assisted products and can talk through the UX tradeoffs
Nice-to-have (What will make you stand out):
- A healthy skepticism of "best practices" and a willingness to question assumptions
- Navigate and adapt to different working styles and personalities effectively
- Designed for LLM-powered interfaces: chat, copilots, background agents, or anything where the "UI" is partially the AI's output
- Experience with prototype creation using AI tools (vibe coding), enough to run your own ideation and testing without waiting for a developer
You're NOT a good fit for this role if:
- You're mainly an executor and haven't set design direction across a full product line.
- You don’t have experience designing for real products in real-world scenarios where users, business needs, and constraints shape the work.
- You've only worked in one product category and haven't handled multiple categories simultaneously.
- You're uncomfortable working fast, using AI, and making clear, opinionated design decisions at scale.
What We Offer:
- A team that trusts each other and values your ideas
- Real problems to solve for real users
- The freedom to shape how we work
- A culture that embraces flexibility and creativity
We believe the best products come from diverse perspectives. If you're excited about building things that matter and want to have fun with great colleagues along the way, we'd love to hear from you.
Your portfolio should show us how you think, not just what you've made. We want real product work: real users, real clients, real stakeholders, and the design decisions you made to navigate all of that. Include at least one project where AI was part of your process. Show us your how and why.
