Youth position as Historical Village Technician with the Friends of Wesleyville Village, Ontario to provide visitor hosting, conservation support and educational program development for our community heritage village.
Term and salary:
- 8-week job term, starting Monday July 6, ending Sunday, August 30, 2026
- 35 hours per week; Thursday through Monday including all weekends
- Hourly rate: $18.50 per hour
Work tasks and responsibilities:
- Conduct and support public education and events at Wesleyville Village;
- Provide on-site tours to drop-in visitors and event attendees;
- Support conservation activities by assisting with restoration and maintenance of heritage collection and structures;
- Develop new educational programming to enhance the visitor experience;
- Document local cultural knowledge and history through projects and outreach activities.
Qualifications:
- Shows initiative and performs well in self-directed work settings;
- Flexible and willing to assist with both physical labour and public programming;
- Comfortable greeting the public, engaging with visitors, and reaching out to members;
- Able to plan and organize tasks, and manage multiple priorities;
- Available to work a Thursday–Monday schedule, including weekends and holidays.
Education & Knowledge:
- Is a college or university student or graduate;
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office or Google Workspace;
- Able to conduct online research and develop content that supports school history programs;
- Studies in education, museum and cultural studies, Canadian history, or related fields are considered an asset;
- Has familiarity with local history and tourism initiatives, or a willingness to learn.
A grant has been received through the Canada Summer Jobs program from Service Canada to fund two employees for 8 weeks.
