The Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, repairing, and servicing Ace Vegetation Control Service Ltd.’s fleet of trucks, trailers, and specialized vegetation management equipment. This role ensures that fleet assets are operating safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
The position requires strong mechanical expertise with diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and specialized equipment used in vegetation management operations. The Heavy Duty Mechanic may work both in the shop and in the field to support operational crews.
Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and specialized equipment
Perform maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, drivetrains, and mechanical components
Maintain and repair hydraulic systems including pumps, cylinders, valves, and hoses
Diagnose and troubleshoot 12V and 24V electrical systems, wiring, sensors, and control systems
Maintain and repair spray systems, pumps, and auxiliary equipment
Perform preventative maintenance inspections and scheduled servicing
Install, modify, or upgrade equipment components when required
Respond to equipment breakdowns and field service requests
Diagnose mechanical issues in field environments and complete repairs when possible
Coordinate with operations staff to minimize equipment downtime
Ensure equipment is safe and operational before returning to service
Maintain accurate maintenance records and service documentation
Monitor equipment condition and report upcoming maintenance needs
Assist with fleet lifecycle planning including repair vs replacement decisions
Support inventory management for parts, tools, and supplies
Ensure all maintenance activities follow company safety policies and procedures
Maintain compliance with provincial and federal transportation and safety regulations
Participate in workplace safety initiatives and hazard assessments
Maintain a clean and organized shop and work environment
Education & Certification
Experience
Experience repairing and maintaining heavy-duty equipment and trucks
Strong experience with hydraulic systems and electrical diagnostics
Experience with diesel engines and mobile equipment
Experience performing preventative maintenance programs
