Gitanes is seeking an experienced Server / Sommelier to join our team. We are looking for a passionate hospitality professional who is equally excited about delivering exceptional guest experiences and sharing their knowledge of wine, food, and beverage.
Gitanes is a French-inspired restaurant in the heart of Ottawa, offering thoughtfully crafted cuisine, an extensive wine program, and warm, attentive service. The ideal candidate is confident in a fine dining environment, has a strong appreciation for wine, and enjoys creating memorable dining experiences for guests.
Responsibilities
- Provide attentive, polished, and professional service throughout the guest experience
- Confidently guide guests through food, wine, cocktail, and beverage selections
- Make thoughtful wine pairings and recommendations based on guest preferences
- Maintain a strong knowledge of our wine list, menu offerings, ingredients, and daily features
- Assist with wine service, inventory management, and maintaining cellar organization
- Work collaboratively with the kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure seamless service
- Anticipate guest needs and resolve concerns with professionalism and care
- Assist with opening, closing, and general dining room duties
- Uphold Gitanes' standards of hospitality, service, and attention to detail
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience serving in a fine dining or upscale restaurant environment
- Strong wine knowledge; formal wine education (WSET, CMS, ISG, or equivalent) is considered an asset
- Passion for food, wine, and hospitality
- Excellent communication and guest service skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills and a team-oriented mindset
- Evening and weekend availability required
- Smart Serve certification required
- Bilingualism (English and French) is preferred
