Sandhill Equipment Corp is looking for a temporary Truck Driver to haul aggregates to various locations locally. The candidate chosen for this position must have a valid class 1 driver's license with air brakes endorsement and is expected to stay organized, multi task, and adapt in what is often a fast-paced environment. This role reports directly to the Project Manager, indirectly to the Site Superintendent.
This is a temporary contract starting as soon as possible. Workers can expect to work 10-hour days Monday - Friday with occasional weekends. Nightshift possible in the future.
Overtime pay is provided.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Class 1 BC Driver’s License (or equivalent)
- Air brake endorsement (required for drivers who operate vehicles equipped with air brakes)
- Previous relevant experience as a Class 1 driver
- Adaptable with strong multi-tasking and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Oral and interpersonal communication skills
- Safety-minded
- Live in the Kitimat or Terrace area
ASSETS
- Certification as an equipment operator
- First aid and/or other safety-related certifications
Working Conditions and Hazards
- Job performed on a mine or construction site including exposure to dust; noise; hot temperatures; and in proximity of vehicles and other heavy equipment
- Shift is usually 10 hours per day dependent upon work schedule and rotation. Overtime is almost always required
- Possible risk of ergonomic-related injury, repetitive stress injury, etc.
- Mental strain due to remaining alert for long hours, maintaining safe working procedures
- Physical strain due to greasing, fueling, climbing into and out of equipment, etc.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Side Dump / Live Bottom / Tridem/ Lowbed Operation – Operate and drive side dump, live bottom, tractor-trailer, long-combination, and straight-body trucks over 4,500 kg to safely transport aggregate and other materials to and from job sites. Complete pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles, trailers, and equipment, ensuring all systems are functioning properly. Secure loads in accordance with company policies and safety regulations. Maintain accurate logbooks, bills of lading, fuel records, and hours of service documentation. Communicate effectively with dispatch, site personnel, and other drivers to ensure safe and efficient operations. Follow all company safety procedures, road regulations, and site-specific requirements
2) Equipment – May perform emergency roadside repairs. Clean, lubricate, and refill equipment when not performed by an on-site mechanic or fueler.
3) Standard Corporate Responsibilities – Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Maintain the stability and reputation of the organization by complying with legal requirements. Conserve resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish the job results. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Be conversant with relevant sections of the Safety Manual. Understand WorkSafeBC acts and regulations, as well as the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC.
