Job Description:
The Journeyperson Industrial Electrician – Preservation Technician performs preservation and preventative maintenance activities on industrial electrical equipment and systems. This role ensures that critical electrical assets remain in a ready-for-service condition during storage, commissioning, or plant shutdown phases. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing preservation procedures on electrical equipment in accordance with industry best practices and site-specific standards.
The Journeyperson Industrial Electrician – Preservation Technician performs the following tasks:
- Perform electrical preservation tasks including insulation resistance testing, space heater verification, battery maintenance, terminal inspections, desiccant replacement, sealing, and protective wrapping.
- Conduct inspections of preserved electrical equipment to verify condition and compliance with preservation schedules.
- Document all preservation work using checklists, forms, or computerized maintenance systems (CMMS).
- Maintain and restore electrical equipment in accordance with OEM guidelines, preservation manuals, and engineering standards.
- Collaborate with planners, engineers, and other trades to ensure preservation integrity across all asset classes.
- Troubleshoot electrical preservation issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist in the de-preservation and readiness verification of equipment prior to installation or commissioning.
- Perform routine testing of motors, switchgear, transformers, MCCs, control panels, UPS systems, and related electrical equipment.
- Comply with all safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and storage environments.
- Other tasks as required.
Requirements:
- Journeyperson Industrial Electrician certification
- 3+ years of industrial electrical maintenance or electrical preservation experience.
- Strong electrical aptitude with knowledge of motors, transformers, switchgear, MCCs, control systems, instrumentation interfaces, and other plant electrical equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, preservation procedures, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency in the use of electrical testing equipment including multimeters, insulation resistance testers (Megger), and other diagnostic tools.
- CSTS 2020.
- WHMIS 2015.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
Additional Preferred Requirements:
- Experience in oil & gas, mining, power generation, or large industrial projects.
- Knowledge of electrical preservation practices per IEEE, OEM, API, or ISO guidelines.
- Experience with motor storage and preservation programs.
- Experience with high-voltage electrical equipment, switchgear, transformers, and motor control centers (MCCs).
- Proficiency in insulation resistance testing (Megger testing), winding condition assessments, and electrical equipment readiness verification.
- Familiarity with commissioning, pre-commissioning, and de-preservation activities for electrical systems.
- Experience working with electrical asset management systems and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Forklift or overhead crane certification.

Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in an industrial environment (construction sites, laydown yards), with uneven terrain.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and varying weather conditions.
- Requires standing, lifting, bending, and use of PPE for extended periods.

Shift: 5x2 Split: Monday – Thursday/Friday: 6:30am–5:00pm / 3:00pm
