Civil Inspector Work Leader - Prince George

What you'll do
- Provides work leadership to incumbents in the Civil Inspector 1 and Inspector 2 jobs. Assigns civil inspection work and
provides technical advice and guidance on the civil inspection function to incumbents in the Surveyor Inspector job.
- Performs all the duties of the Civil Inspector 2 job.
- In consultation with the Project Lead, negotiates and approves extra work for all projects assigned to Civil Inspector 1.
Assists the Surveyor Inspector and Civil Inspector 2 with obtaining approval of project extras that are required to complete
the work. Ensures documented Civil Inspection forms are completed for all civil projects. Reviews quality of documentation,
investigates and resolves documented issues, communicates “lessons learned” with team and Civil Inspector manager, files
paperwork using internal processes.
- Assists the Civil Inspector manager to create a fiscal work delivery schedule and resourcing strategy by providing data on
work volumes and resource availability. Implements the fiscal plan and informs the manager of required changes
throughout the year.
- Assists the Civil Inspection Manager with the development and implementation of new civil inspection and survey training,
processes and procedures by providing subject matter expertise, developing training materials and delivering training.
- May act as a BC Hydro representative in court on civil construction claims filed against the company including collating all
inspection documentation and drawings and determining the facts concerning the claim with the Civil Inspectors and
construction contractors involved.
- Negotiates and resolves customer complaints that cannot be resolved by the Surveyor Inspector, Civil Inspector 2 or Civil
Inspector 1. Where complaints cannot be resolved, escalates to the Civil Inspection Manager.
- Researches and proposes draft procedures that adapt to changes in civil construction practices, equipment and safety.
Provides technical review and feedback in the development of civil policy manuals and guidelines from Engineering,
Standards, Claims, Customer Build and various other Distribution stakeholders.
- Delegates work and monitors progress of civil inspection and survey contracts by performing duties such as: assessing
the survey and inspection needs of clients; assembling scope of work documents, project specifications, charge code(s)
and schedules for survey and inspection contracts awarded to pre-approved consultants; and communicating survey and
inspection requirements to consultants including site visit attendance, processing of deliverables and reporting to clients.
- Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.
What you bring
- Graduation from an accredited technician or technologist or public works program, with five (5) years of utility construction
experience, and two (2) years of experience as a Civil Inspector 2 or equivalent civil inspector experience in the utility
