Monteferro America seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to support our Controller in managing our company’s accounting operations, while ensuring the integrity of financial reporting.
You will be responsible for overseeing daily accounting activities, supporting monthly close process, maintaining cost accounting systems, and ensuring compliance with internal controls. In our manufacturing environment, the Assistant Controller will play a key role in inventory valuation, standard costing, and operational financial analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Prepare internal financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS).
- Support year-end audit preparation and respond to auditor inquiries.
Cost Accounting & Inventory Management
- Maintain and update standard costing system.
- Analyze material, labor, and overhead variances.
- Review and validate bill of materials (BOM) costing.
- Monitor inventory valuation, reserves, and obsolescence.
- Analyze Work-in-Process (WIP) and production reporting.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting
- Ensure proper segregation of duties and adherence to company policies.
- Document and improve accounting procedures and SOPs.
- Support compliance with lender reporting requirements and regulatory standards.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist in preparation of annual operating budgets.
- Support monthly and quarterly financial forecasts.
- Provide gross margin and cost trend analysis.
- Assist in capital expenditure tracking and ROI analysis.
Cash Flow & Working Capital
- Monitor accounts receivable, accounts payable, and inventory turnover.
- Assist in cash flow forecasting and working capital analysis.
- Support banking and financing reporting requirements.
- Systems & Reporting o Maintain accuracy and integrity of ERP financial data (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics).
- Develop and improve financial reporting tools and dashboards.
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities.
Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise accounting staff.
- Provide training and mentorship to accounting team members.
- Support succession planning and staff development initiatives.
As the ideal candidate, you will possess:
- CPA Designation or enrolled student of program
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience in a manufacturing or similar environment
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting and inventory management.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations and tax compliance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Excel proficiency.
- Experience with ERP systems.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to partner effectively with multiple departments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be a Canadian citizen/Permanent Resident
- Must live in Manitoba with a reliable vehicle and ability to commute to our Bird's Hill location.
