Job Type: One-year term (July 6, 2026 – July 3, 2027)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Location: Homalco First Nation Administration Office, 1218 Bute Crescent, Campbell River, BC
Salary: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour

JOB SUMMARY
The Receptionist is the first point of contact for community members, visitors, and partners at the Homalco First Nation Administration Office. This role provides front desk coverage, general administrative support, and assists with communication and coordination of community programs and services. The Receptionist ensures a warm, respectful, and culturally safe experience for everyone accessing Homalco First Nation offices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Front Desk Management
- Greet and welcome community members, visitors, and staff in a warm, professional, and culturally respectful manner
- Answer and direct incoming phone calls, emails, and other inquiries to the appropriate staff or department
- Monitor reception email inbox and voicemail, ensuring timely responses and follow-up
- Maintain a tidy, welcoming, and confidential reception and waiting area
Administrative Support
- Perform general administrative duties including filing, data entry, photocopying, scanning, and document preparation. Receive, date-stamp, and distribute incoming mail and deliveries
- Schedule appointments and maintain shared calendars for staff and community services, as required
- Assist with ordering and tracking office supplies
Community Liaison and Communication
- Provide general information about Homalco First Nation programs, services, and events, referring to appropriate staff or resources when needed
- Support the coordination of community events, meetings, and gatherings (room bookings, sign-in sheets, basic set-up, and communication)
- Update notice boards and assist with distribution of notices, newsletters, and other communications
Confidentiality and Safety
- Handle all inquiries and information with strict confidentiality, in line with Homalco policies and relevant privacy legislation
- Report concerns, incidents, or safety issues to the appropriate supervisor
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Strong customer service orientation with a friendly, respectful, and professional demeanor
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a busy environment
- Solid attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) and comfort with basic office technology (multiline phones, copiers, scanners)
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and to build positive working relationships with community members, Elders, staff, and external partners
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion, particularly within a small community context
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent required
- Previous experience in a receptionist, front desk, or administrative support role preferred
- Experience working with First Nations communities or Indigenous organizations is an asset
- Experience in a health, social services, or community services environment is an asset
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle (asset, if occasional errands or event support are required)
- Valid First Aid Level 1 (or willingness to obtain)
