Summary
The Fresh Cut Lead Hand is a working leader responsible for overseeing daily production activities on their assigned line or shift. This role ensures that processing, packaging, and sanitation are completed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with all food safety standards. The Lead Hand acts as the first point of contact for line staff and supports the Supervisor on shift.
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 6am to 3:30pm / 3pm to 12:30am
Key Responsibilities
Line Leadership & Coordination
- Assign daily tasks to fresh cut staff (washing, peeling, cutting, packaging, labeling) as per planned work
- Monitor line speed and staffing levels to adjust as needed
- Step into production roles (cutting, operating, packaging) to cover breaks or shortages
- Act as the first point of contact for questions, issues, or minor conflict resolution
- Report absenteeism, performance concerns, or safety incidents to the supervisor
Food Safety, GMP Enforcement
- Ensure all staff follow GMP, Primus, CCPs, SOPs, and Health & Safety rules
- Verify proper PPE (hairnets, gloves, smocks, aprons) are worn at all times
- Confirm accurate lot code traceability from raw product through finished goods
- Verify labels (lot code, production date, best before date, barcodes, descriptions) on all finished packages
Production & Quality Control
- Ensure proper yields and minimize product waste during processing
- Verify all tools (knives, pens, markers) are accounted for pre and post shift
- Monitor machine operation and report mechanical issues
- Complete or verify daily paperwork (production records, pre-op inspection, etc)
- Monitor and order packaging supplies, labels, and supplies as needed
Sanitation & Safety
- Ensure work areas, tables, and machines are cleaned and sanitized prior to use
- Verify chemical concentrations within required ranges
- Calibrate monitoring equipment (scales, Delco meter) as assigned
- Conduct quick safety reminders and report hazards immediately
- Material & Supply Coordination
Qualifications
- Safety and quality focused
- Experience in food production preferred
- Ability to stand and walk for full shifts and lift up to 25+ kg
- Strong attention to detail for traceability, labeling, and quality checks
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work with minimal supervision
- Basic math and paperwork skills, clear communicator with staff, supervisor and other departments
- Leads by example while working alongside the team
- Organized problem solver who can resolve daily line issues
