The Role:
We are seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Custom Picture Framer to join our team. This dual-focused role involves both hands-on frame shop production and direct consultation with clients in our showroom. You will collaborate with customers to conceptualize creative framing designs, guide material selection, and execute the production from raw materials to final assembly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Client Consultation & Design: Work directly with showroom clients to design custom framing concepts, recommending moulding, matting, glass options, and mounting techniques that complement the artwork and meet budget expectations.
- Moulding & Joining: Measuring, cutting, joining, and finishing custom moulding (wood and metal).
- Matting & Glass Cutting: Precise cutting of single/multi-opening mats and glass (standard, conservation, and museum glass).
- Mounting & Preservation: Dry mounting, textile stretching, object encapsulation, and conservation-grade mounting techniques.
- Assembly & Fitting: Final assembly, fitting, dust-sealing, and hardware installation.
- Shop Maintenance: Maintaining equipment, organizing moulding stock, and keeping a clean, safe workspace.
- Quality Control: Conducting strict quality checks at every step of both the design specification and production process.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum 2+ years of professional custom picture framing and customer-facing design experience preferred.
- Design & Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with an eye for color, scale, and aesthetic design when working with clients.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with wall/table cutters, pneumatic joiners, mat cutters (manual or computerized mat cutters), and standard shop tools.
- Precision & Eye for Detail: Strong measuring skills (imperial) and high standards for accuracy.
- Care & Respect: Demonstrated care when handling original art, delicate textiles, and high-value heirlooms.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 40 lbs, and comfortably operate power shop tools.
Pay: $17.60-$26.27 per hour
