Our success is built on collaboration, technical excellence, and a people-first culture. We are seeking an Engineering Manager to join our Senior Leadership Team.
The Engineering Manager is a core operational and people leadership role responsible for managing the Engineering department’s compliance, performance, resource planning, and execution. This role has regulatory responsibilities, team leadership, and day-to-day operational effectiveness while enabling scalable growth.
Engineering Department Leadership
- Lead, manage, and develop the Engineering team across disciplines.
- Establish clear expectations, accountability, and performance standards.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, development, and retention of engineering talent.
- Develop leadership depth and contingency within the Engineering team by mentoring and preparing mid-level managers to step into expanded technical and people-leadership roles as needed.
- Provide senior technical oversight and guidance on complex or high-risk engineering work and own succession planning for advanced technical capability.
Regulatory & Compliance Ownership
- Act as Responsible Member(s) for APEGA, EGBC, and APEGS as required.
- Own and maintain PPMPs for AB, BC, and SK.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with professional and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee engineering quality assurance and risk management processes.
- Provide professional engineering stamping for drawings and deliverables for the Engineering department, as required, in accordance with provincial regulations.
- Hold and maintain appropriate P.Eng. designation(s) to support stamping authority aligned with ASCENT’s core service offerings.
- Serve as the Engineering representative on the Leadership Team, providing technical, regulatory, and risk oversight at a senior management level.
Resource Planning & Utilization
- Own engineering resource planning, workload forecasting, and capacity management.
- Collaborate with Projects and Operations to align staffing with project needs.
Project Oversight & Execution Support
- Provide oversight to Project Managers and Professional Engineers.
- Ensure consistent application of developing and improving procedures, standards, and best practices.
- Support resolution of technical or execution issues.
Safety & Operational Governance
- Participate in or designated representation on the Safety Committee.
- Ensure engineering alignment with company safety and operational standards.
Business Development Support
- Provide engineering input into proposals and project scoping.
- Support client engagements as required in coordination with leadership.
- Engage with industry through seminars, presentations etc. (GPAC etc.)
- Support identification and pursuit of new business opportunities by leveraging technical expertise and existing client networks to expand relationships with both new and returning clients.
Process Improvement & Scalability
- Drive consistent use of existing procedures.
- Identify, develop, and implement new processes as the company grows.
- Reduce silos across disciplines and improve cross-functional collaboration.
Qualifications & Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Process, or equivalent discipline aligned with ASCENT’s core services).
- Active Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing, with eligibility and ability to obtain registration in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.
- Demonstrated ability to stamp mechanical and process engineering drawings and deliverables in accordance with provincial regulatory requirements.
- Minimum 10+ years of progressive EPC engineering experience, including senior technical oversight on complex or large-scale projects.
- Proven experience in engineering leadership or management, including mentoring, performance management, and team development.
- Strong working knowledge of PPMPs, regulatory compliance, and engineering quality assurance frameworks.
- Ability to operate effectively as a senior leader within a Leadership Team, contributing to strategic, operational, and risk-based decision-making.
- Experience supporting business development, proposals, and client engagement is considered
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $175,000.00-$250,000.00 per year
