Job summary
As a member of the store"s Management Team, the Supervisor/Department Manager is responsible for managing and leading the department by ensuring that the department operates efficiently with friendly and informed staff. Reporting to the Store Manager/General Manager, this role ensures customer satisfaction and retail execution that meets the performance expectations.

Responsibilities:

Foster a culture that values excellent customer service by training, coaching, and supporting team members.
- Supervise and coordinate sales staff, assigning duties and preparing work schedules that align with business needs and budget guidelines.
- Maintain inventory levels, order merchandise, and ensure the department"s presentation meets customer expectations.
- Plan, supervise and assist with daily/weekly departmental activities, objectives, and seasonal changeovers.
- Ensure store visual standards, including displays, signage, and cleanliness, are maintained.
- Hire, train, and support new sales staff, monitoring performance and providing constructive feedback while recognizing achievements.
- Manage team performance by encouraging, motivating, and inspiring employees to excel in their roles.
- Resolve conflicts while ensuring both customer satisfaction and a positive work environment.
- Help with store opening and closing responsibilities, including key-holding, signing for deliveries, and managing escalated complaints.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies to drive sales and customer engagement.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations.
Requirements / Skills
-
Previous retail sales experience as a retail salesperson or sales clerk, cashier, telemarketer, door-to-door salesperson or rental agent, with demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in a related field (7 months to less than 1 year of experience).
- Ability to work varied shifts (weekends, early mornings, evenings and overnight when required)
- Completion of High School Diploma or equivalent
- Approachable
- Ability to handle physical demands including standing/walking for 8 hours while frequently lifting and carrying items, using a ladder, twisting, turning and reaching
- Ability to plan, organize, communicate, delegate and follow up team"s activities and projects
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to find solutions to problems, adapt and cope with challenging situations and make difficult decisions
- Ability to operate cash register (asset)
