Job Summary
The Roll Forming Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining stamping press machines to produce high-quality metal components in accordance with production schedules and quality standards. This role requires a strong understanding of machine operation, blueprint reading, and quality control procedures.
Job Duties
- Set up and operate stamping press machines according to production specifications and safety standards
- Verify that all produced parts meet quality standards and customer specifications using appropriate measuring tools and inspection techniques
- Obtain first-off approval where required and perform regular inspections during production to maintain consistent quality
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to ensure accurate production of components
- Select and install appropriate tooling for each job, ensuring proper alignment and secure setup to minimize downtime and defects
- Work to established production standards, ensuring parts are produced cost-effectively and on schedule
- Accurately record job numbers, quantities produced, scrap, and time entries on timecards or digital systems
- Identify and rework non-conforming parts to meet inspection standards, collaborating with Quality Control as needed
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment to reduce downtime and extend machine life
- Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety shoes, and follow all safety protocols
- Promptly report any unsafe conditions or equipment malfunctions to the Team Lead or Supervisor
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring all tools and materials are properly stored at the end of each shift
- Assist in other areas of the Fabrication Department or across Samco Machinery Ltd. as directed, based on operational needs.
Job Requirements (Education, Knowledge & Skill)
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in manufacturing or machine operation is an asset
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience operating stamping press or similar machinery in a manufacturing environment
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machine setup, tooling, and maintenance
- Familiarity with quality control procedures and use of measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges
- Basic math skills for measuring, calculating tolerances, and recording production data
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime or shift work, as required.
Work Conditions & Physical Demands
- Work is performed in a factory or fabrication shop setting with exposure to machinery, noise, and moving parts
- Exposure to moderate to high noise levels; hearing protection may be required
- Lifting range of 10 to 50 lbs
- Moderate dexterity skills level required for equipment set-up
- The work is performed while standing
- Work involves meeting production targets and deadlines, requiring focus and efficiency.
Other: May involve working day, evening, or night shifts, including weekends or overtime based on production needs.
