Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) is looking for a Manager, Continuing Education to lead the development and delivery of a non-credit continuing education portfolio that is responsive to community and market demand. This portfolio serves diverse learners (children, youth, adults, and seniors) through courses, workshops, and camps that support creative, recreational, and skills-based learning outside of formal academic or credentialed pathways.
The role advances an entrepreneurial portfolio with direct accountability for revenue generation and targets, external partnerships, portfolio performance, and growth opportunities aligned with institutional priorities.
This position leads operational planning and provides strategic and operational direction to a multi-faceted team including goal setting, performance management, and coaching. As a leader, this role is responsible for championing and integrating equity, diversity, and inclusion, strategic partnerships, and enrollment management principles. Key responsibilities of this role include leading the integration of EDI principles into learning portfolios.
This is a full-time permanent management position starting as soon as possible. Hours of work are 35 hours per week, 7 hours per day.
Key Responsibilities:
Continuing Education
- Manage the operations of learning portfolios, including the planning, delivery, and continuous improvement of a portfolio of non-credit continuing education offerings, including courses, workshops, and camps.
- Oversee day-to-day operations including scheduling, delivery models, and resource allocation, a team of continuing education instructors and support staff.
- Manage employee relations, including goal setting, performance appraisals, mentoring, coaching.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting aligned with revenue targets.
- Provide direction regarding departmental goals and initiatives including equity, diversity & inclusion.
Entrepreneurial Growth & Revenue Development
- Lead the development and expansion of non-credit continuing education offerings to drive revenue growth and audience diversification. Identify and pursue opportunities based on market demand.
- Establish scalable delivery models that support financial viability.
- Position continuing education as an entry point for new audiences.
- Monitor and analyze performance metrics (enrollment, cost recovery, market trends) and make informed decisions on offering viability, delivery models, and resource investment.
Partnership Development
- Develop, manage, and expand external partnerships to support growth, audience development, and revenue diversification.
- Lead partnerships with community organizations and industry, including delivery through community-based venues.
- Develop agreements (MOUs/contracts) and oversee joint initiatives such as workshops and community-based offerings.
- Assess partnership effectiveness using performance metrics to inform decision-making.
Qualifications:
The following qualifications have been determined to promote the likelihood of
success in the role. In alignment with the principles of inclusion, individuals with an alternative equivalent qualification may be considered.
Mandatory
- Degree in a related field, such as Business, Entrepreneurship, Adult Learning or Marketing.
- 5 years experience in a similar leadership role
- Demonstrated accomplishment in revenue generation, preferably with educational program development with diverse constituencies from public, private, and non-profit sectors
- Demonstrated experience in business planning, marketing, and financial administration
- Demonstrated experience in operational growth planning and implementing change initiatives
- Demonstrated experience initiating and stewarding external and internal relationships with potential clients and stakeholder groups
Preferential
- Knowledge of post-secondary legislation, policies, and procedures
- Demonstrated experience in entrepreneurial education service provision
