We are seeking a motivated and dependable Groundman/Arborist Assistant to join our growing utility arborist team specializing in vegetation management and tree trimming around powerlines throughout Nova Scotia. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, values safety, and is eager to build a long-term career in the arboriculture industry.
No previous experience is necessary — we are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates a positive attitude, strong work ethic, reliability, and a willingness to learn.
Schedule
- Monday to Friday
- Full-time hours
- Overtime opportunities may be available based on operational requirements and weather conditions
Location Requirement
- Applicants must reside in Truro, Nova Scotia or surrounding area
Responsibilities
- Assist Arborists and Line Clearance crews with daily operations
- Operate and maintain chainsaws, chippers, hand tools, and other equipment safely
- Perform ground cleanup and debris management at job sites
- Maintain a safe work environment around energized powerlines
- Support crew members with rigging, lowering, and site setup
- Follow all company safety procedures, policies, and industry standards
- Participate in daily tailboard meetings and hazard assessments
- Load and unload equipment and materials as required
- Maintain a professional attitude with coworkers, clients, and the public
Requirements
- Safety-conscious mindset and willingness to follow direction
- Valid Intermediate First Aid Certification preferred
- Valid Fall Arrest Certification preferred
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Physically capable of lifting, carrying, bending, and performing demanding labour tasks
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Reliable transportation to and from reporting locations
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in tree trimming, forestry, landscaping, construction, or outdoor labour is considered an asset, but is not required
- Chainsaw experience is considered an asset
- Class 5 driver’s license is required
