The Merchant Ale House has been in continuous operation for 27 years, and has grown into a St. Catharines hospitality institution. We're a consistently busy establishment, known for the pride we take in our Food, Beverage, and Service standards. We are proud to have many long-term employees, and are looking to add a Front of House and Bar Supervisor to our dining room team!
The FOH Supervisor role is designed to bridge the gap between floor service and operational management. A supervisor will be the administrative heartbeat of the pub. While you will remain a primary table service provider for four shifts a week, one day will be dedicated entirely to "The Business"—ensuring the staff are cared for, the bar is stocked and the atmosphere is maintained.
Core Responsibilities
Weekly Operations (Approx. 5 Hours)
Financials: Preparing bank deposits and maintaining the house tip float.
Inventory Management: Ordering through LCBO, Wine vendors, Limited releases, and Non-Alcoholic partners: Ironwood, Merchandise (Embros), packaging inventory ( 6 pack holders, growlers etc)
Human Resources: Weekly scheduling for FOH staff
Monitor and report equipment and facility maintenance issues.
Act as a primary communication point between kitchen and service staff continuing to foster a positive and professional communication pathway between departments.
Strategic Alignment: A 1-2 hour weekly briefing with the management team to review goals and performance, ideas and maintenance issues.
Administrative & Periodic Tasks
Payroll - Correcting shift discrepancies in the POS (Bi-Weekly) Double checking and reporting all employee hours to Management.
Entertainment (Monthly): Co-ordinating and booking live bands.
Basic Menu Updates - Website, POS, Uber.
Maintain service and cleaning standards.
Assist in hiring and training new FOH staff.
Respond to guest concerns and inquiries.
Facility & Environment (Ad-hoc)
Acting as the point of contact for maintenance calls and repairs.
Coordinating seasonal holiday decorations.
Overseeing and scheduling "Deep Clean" sessions to maintain health and safety standards.

Balance: Can switch seamlessly from a high-volume serving shift to a focused administrative mindset.
Be a face of the business
Be honest and open to upper management with all issues, concerns and mistakes.
Reliability: You are the keeper of the cash and the schedule; accuracy and fairness are non-negotiable.
Insightful: You must actively observe customer feedback and service flow, maintaining a keen eye for operational details while proactively communicating observations to the relevant department heads.
