Company Overview
Since 1916, Pacific Customs Brokers has been a leader in international freight management, customs brokerage, and logistics solutions. We are committed to providing exceptional service and fostering career growth within a dynamic industry that connects businesses across the globe.
Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Freight Forwarder to join our logistics team. The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record in end-to-end global supply chain operations, specializing heavily in international Air and Ocean (Import/Export) freight forwarding.
With 3 to 5 years of hands-on industry experience, you will handle everything from gathering details and routing optimization to customs compliance and final delivery. If you are a proactive problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in delivering exceptional client service, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
1. Core Air & Ocean Operations
- Ocean Freight: Coordinate and manage end-to-end Ocean Freight operations, including Full Container Load (FCL) and Less than Container Load (LCL) imports and exports. Handle consolidation, drayage coordination, and equipment allocation.
- Air Freight Execution: Execute time-sensitive Air Freight operations. Manage direct and consolidated air shipments, optimize routing based on chargeable/dimensional weight vs. gross weight, and coordinate airport-to-airport or door-to-door moves.
- Carrier & Vendor Relations: Maintain and build strong relationships with steamship lines, co-loaders, airlines, and overseas agents. Negotiate competitive spot rates, secure space allocations (especially during peak seasons), and manage contract rates.
2. Documentation & Compliance
- Air & Ocean Documentation: Prepare, review, and process modal-specific documentation with zero errors. This includes House and Master Bills of Lading (HBL/MBL), House and Master Air Waybills (HAWB/MAWB), e-AWBs, Manifests, Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, and Certificates of Origin.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to international and local regulatory bodies (e.g., IATA for air, CBSA/FMC for ocean, Transport Canada air cargo security measures).
- Customs Coordination: Oversee mandatory customs filings such as AMS, ISF, and ACI. Work closely with customs brokers to facilitate smooth clearance and minimize cargo holds.
3. Client Management & Problem Solving
- Client Advisory: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, advising them on optimal transport modes, transit times, Incoterms 2020, and cargo insurance options.
- Tracking & Milestone Visibility: Provide proactive milestone updates, container tracking, and flight status alerts.
- Disruption Management: Efficiently navigate complex operational challenges such as port congestion, blank sailings, rolled cargo, airline offloads, and customs delays to minimize demurrage, detention, and storage costs.
4. Financial Accuracy
- Job Costing: Manage files from A to Z financially, including precise job costing, accurate quoting, approving vendor invoices, resolving billing discrepancies, and ensuring timely, accurate billing to clients.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in international freight forwarding operations, with a strong focus on both Air and Ocean modes.
- Modal Expertise: Deep understanding of Ocean freight mechanics (container types, vessel schedules, port operations, and drayage).
- Solid grasp of Air freight logistics (IATA regulations, airline networks, airport handling, and security screening protocols).
- Education & Designations: High School Diploma or equivalent required; Degree/Diploma in Supply Chain, Logistics, or International Trade is a strong asset.
- CIFFA (Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association) designation (FIATA is a plus) or ongoing coursework is highly desirable and considered a major asset.
- Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of Incoterms 2020, cargo insurance, customs regulations, and dangerous goods (DG) regulations for Air (IATA) and Ocean (IMDG) is a major plus.
- Technical Skills: High proficiency with enterprise freight management software (specifically CargoWise One or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially advanced Excel).
- Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to negotiate effectively with global vendors and manage high-pressure, time-sensitive situations with a calm demeanor.
- This position is on-site at our Head Office in South Surrey
- Ground freight experience not considered equivalent to Air/Ocean experience
