Job Title: Medical Office Assistant

Job Summary:
The Medical Office Assistant works directly with a Rheumatologist. Medical Office Assistant is responsible for providing the duties and responsibilities outlined below.
Three days a week from 0800-1600 in person. Occasional fourth days added on.
Salary: $24-28 per hour

Duties and Responsibilities:
· Coordinate patient care through the clinic – greeting, checking in, escorting to exam rooms, and preparing exam or treatment rooms for the next patient.
· Answer enquiries by phone and in person in a helpful, respectful and efficient manner.
· Maintain appointment schedule and manage recalls. Schedule, confirm, and manage patient appointments.
· Maintain accurate and confidential electronic medical records, including the patient chart.
· Prepare patients and set up exam rooms.
· Ensure exam rooms are stocked and cleaned appropriately, and ensure that they are ready for the next patient.
· Ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
· Prepare and submit correspondence, forms, and reports as required.
· Prepare and clean up procedure trays (training will be provided).
· Perform patient prep procedures and document findings on the patient record.
· Prepare the daily patient charts prior to patient encounters.
· Process and track BC PharmaCare Special Authority requests for DMARDs and biologic therapies.
· Coordinate documentation and communication with third-party Patient Support Programs (PSPs) for advanced therapeutics.
· Perform and record vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, weight, etc.)
· Perform billing procedures for multiple payers (MSP, ICBC, WCB, etc) if required, and apply and collect non-insured fees where applicable.
· Order and receive kitchen, office and medical supplies.
· Tidying up of office space in between patients.
· Perform all other related clinical, administrative tasks or special tasks as required.
Qualifications:
· Medical Office Assistant diploma/certificate
· Preferably two years of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
· Basic Cardiac Life Support certificate.
Skills and Abilities:
· A high level of cultural sensitivity is required. There is no tolerance for disrespect for accents, different linguistic or ethnic backgrounds.
· Language skills are a bonus. Please inform us of any non-English languages you speak well enough to carry out office interactions.
· Works well in a team environment.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Proficiency with a computer including using the internet, the electronic medical record and MS Office software. (Onboarding training for EMR will be provided)
· Efficiency, accuracy, problem solving, and strong critical thinking skills.
· Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a busy medical setting.
· Professionalism and empathy when dealing with sensitive or confidential matters.
· Typing speed and accuracy.
