Overview
The Niagara Wasps Rugby Club is seeking qualified and enthusiastic sideline trainer to provide on-field medical coverage and injury management services for our U16 and U18 youth rugby teams (boys and girls divisions) during the 2026 summer season. This is a flexible, game-by game contract position - ideal for professionals looking to contribute to youth sport development in the Niagara region.
The ideal candidate will be prepared to handle medical emergencies efficiently while maintaining a professional demeanor on the sidelines.
Compensation: $95 per game
Responsibilities
- Assess injuries and determine appropriate course of action, including stabilization and transportation if needed
- Assist with injury prevention measures by monitoring athlete activity and environment conditions
- Respond promptly to any medical emergencies, ensuring the safety of all individuals involved
- Coordinate with coaching staff and parents/guardians regarding player health and return-to-play
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of assessments and treatments with post-game report back to medical director
- Communicate clearly with players, coaching staff, parents, and emergency medical services
Requirements
- Valid Emergency First Responder (EFR) certification — MANDATORY
- Proficiency in taping and wrapping techniques for injury prevention and support (e.g., ankle, knee, wrist, shoulder)
- Strong knowledge of athletic musculoskeletal injuries, including assessment, management, and rehabilitation principles
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and decisive in emergency situations
- Current CPR/AED certification
- Valid Vulnerable Sector Check (or confirmation one is in progress)
Additional / Preferred
- Previous experience in rugby or contact sport environments is an asset
- Certification, degree, or current enrolment in Athletic Therapy, Kinesiology, or a related field
- Knowledge of Rugby Canada concussion protocols and return-to-play guidelines
Pay: $95.00 per day
