Program Summary
CAES assists job-seekers to overcome barriers, understand workplace culture and fill the personnel needs of inclusive employers in Calgary.
CAES works with each client to identify their ideal work setting and employment support needs. Job interviews and employment placement are facilitated in accordance with the client’s goals. We then provide ongoing follow-up support to both the client and the employer in order to strengthen their skills and working relationship as well as ensure job satisfaction and retention.
Job Summary
The Career Consultant’s primary function is to engage people with disabilities in exploration, planning and learning around career development in order to facilitate effective talent-matching and employment outcomes. Assisting clientele in the identification of job targets and education/training options are integral duties. The Career Consultant position is teamed with the CAES Diversity and Engagement Consultant position to facilitate outcomes in workplace diversity and inclusion. Caseload management and community education are ongoing elements of this position.
The Career Consultant will be passionate about diversity and inclusion in the workplace; demonstrate strong advocacy skills; and provide positive coaching to both clients and potential employers. They will possess a self-starting attitude and creative thinking to utilize existing supports and community resources to mitigate employment barriers.
This role typically works Monday – Friday from 8:30am – 4:30pm out of the main CASS office; however, will require flexibility in working evenings and weekends when necessary to meet the needs of the clients.
Key Responsibilities to:
Client
- Support clients to develop an understanding of their unique characteristics in relation to career choices
- Support clients to identify interests, values, skills, and strengths, aptitudes and lifestyle factors in relation to work culture
- Support clients with goal setting and career planning
- Support clients with professional resume building, and identification of appropriate employment references
- Support clients to mitigate barriers, using existing supports and community resources/options
- Build, and maintain strong/positive employer relationships to support inclusion and job retention)
- Coach and connect clients with natural supports in their work environment
- Advocate to ensure full understanding of work requirements, as well as rights and privileges
- Advocate for employees and employers, with regards to human rights and legislative requirements for persons with disabilities
- Provide employee and employer with strategies and resources to meet goals and expectations
- Facilitate informed decision making throughout service continuum
Caseload Management
- Direct client support of 17 – 25+ individuals
- Address client related motivational or readiness issues
- Conduct service reviews with Program Management, where required
- Work in collaboration with colleagues to facilitate employment outcomes
- Coaching and design of workplace accommodations to support job retention
- Every 12 months, coordinate Individual Support Plan (ISP) review meetings with PDD Funded Clients
- Verbal and written communications with clients, team members and support networks
Agency/Program
- Ensure program content and delivery processes conform to a high ethical standard, exemplary standards of practice, and the Mission, Vision and Mandate of the Agency
- Case management and adherence to specific funder requirements
- Develop, coordinate, and facilitate program workshops and related activities
- Perform administrative tasks: file maintenance, information distribution, team meetings, strategic planning, expense claims, timesheets, etc.
- Adhere, and contribute to, the Program Operations Manual
- Promote inclusion – participate in promoting successes via CAES website
- Participate on a CASS committee

Communication
This position engages in extensive internal and external interactions and communications. A high degree of professionalism and sensitivity is required. Participation in the following communication mechanisms is required:
- Client intake/informational meetings
- Weekly CAES team meetings – minute taking, stat reporting, etc.
- Scheduled CASS office organizational meetings
- Program planning meetings
- Development and contribution of content for the CAES and CASS social media platforms
- Understanding of and ability to communicate the Business Case for hiring a person with a disability
Required Education
- A degree or diploma in the Human Services sector or a related field, (or commensurate experience) is required
Other Required Skills
- A vehicle and valid driver's license are considered assets
