Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate, enthusiastic, and reliable Piano & Music Theory Instructor to join our team.
The successful candidate will teach private and small-group piano lessons while also providing music theory instruction to students ranging from beginners to advanced levels.
Responsibilities
- Teach engaging and individualized piano lessons to children, teens, and adults.
- Instruct students in music theory concepts, including note reading, rhythm, scales, intervals, chords, ear training, and sight-reading.
- Develop lesson plans tailored to each student's goals and learning style.
- Prepare students for recitals, performances, festivals, competitions, and examinations (RCM experience is an asset).
- Teach proper piano technique, musicianship, interpretation, and performance skills.
- Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to families and students.
- Maintain a positive, encouraging, and professional learning environment.
- Communicate effectively with parents, students, and academy administration.
- Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled lessons.
- Participate in academy events, recitals, and special programs when required.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1–2 years of piano teaching experience.
- Degree or diploma in Music Performance, Music Education, Piano Pedagogy, or a related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge of music theory, ear training, and sight-reading.
- Ability to teach students from beginner to advanced levels.
- Experience preparing students for RCM examinations is an asset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, energetic, organized, and dependable.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students of all ages and abilities.
- Vulnerable Sector Check (or willingness to obtain one).
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Preferred Qualifications RCM certification or equivalent pedagogical training.
- Experience teaching group classes, camps, or ensembles.
- Ability to teach additional subjects such as voice, composition, or beginner guitar is an asset.
- Experience with online instruction and educational technology.
- Experience working with students with diverse learning needs.
