Position Overview
TCE is seeking a motivated Junior Industrial Painter to join our Fabrication Shop team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with entry-level painting, coating, automotive refinishing, or fabrication experience who is interested in developing a career in industrial painting.
Working under the direction of experienced team members and the Fabrication Shop Supervisor, the successful candidate will assist with preparing and painting structural steel and other fabricated metal products. Training will be provided on TCE’s painting equipment, procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements.
Responsibilities
- Assist with industrial painting operations in the fabrication shop.
- Prepare steel and other fabricated metal products for painting.
- Clean, wash, strip, sand, remove corrosion, fill imperfections, and mask surfaces.
- Mix and apply industrial coatings under the direction of experienced painters.
- Assist with applying enamel, epoxy, urethane, and other coatings.
- Use spray-painting equipment, rollers, brushes, and other tools safely and effectively.
- Review and follow product Technical Data Sheets and Safety Data Sheets.
- Assist with painting products ranging from small components to large structural-steel pieces.
- Apply stencils, decals, and other customer-specified markings.
- Perform paint touch-ups and minor repairs as required.
- Assist with coating inspections, including thickness and general quality checks.
- Clean and maintain painting equipment, tools, ventilation systems, and work areas.
- Monitor paint and supply inventory and report shortages to the supervisor.
- Assist with moving and storing materials using cranes, forklifts, and other equipment once properly trained and certified.
- Complete required company and customer documentation accurately.
- Work cooperatively with Quality, Purchasing, Operations, and other departments.
- Follow all TCE health and safety policies, quality procedures, regulations, and applicable legislation.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Up to two years of industrial painting, automotive painting, powder coating, construction painting, or related experience is preferred.
- Previous experience in a fabrication shop or industrial environment is considered an asset.
- Basic knowledge of surface preparation and painting techniques is preferred.
- Experience using hand and power tools is considered an asset.
- Willingness to learn how to safely operate spray-painting and electrostatic painting equipment.
- Forklift or crane certification is considered an asset; training may be provided.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Dependable, organized, and safety-focused.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn new skills and accept coaching and feedback.
- Ability to perform the physical duties associated with the position.
