BLUBC Education Consulting is seeking an experienced and passionate AP Biology & Biology Olympiad Tutor to join our growing academic team as an Independent Contractor.

The ideal candidate has experience teaching AP Biology, Biology Olympiad (e.g., USABO, Canadian Biology Olympiad, BBO), IB Biology, or first-year university Biology, possesses a collection of self-developed teaching materials (such as lesson slides, worksheets, quizzes, homework assignments, and mock exams), and is committed to providing personalized instruction, meaningful feedback, and measurable learning outcomes.
Our programs include both one-on-one tutoring and small-group instruction. Most classes are taught in person at our UBC campus, with occasional online teaching opportunities when appropriate.
Candidates who are able to teach both AP Biology and Biology Olympiad will be strongly preferred.
Position Type: Independent Contractor
Please note:
- Our primary teaching location is our UBC campus in Vancouver.
- Final-round interviews are conducted via Zoom.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach AP Biology, Biology Olympiad, IB Biology, and related advanced Biology courses in one-on-one and small-group settings.
- Deliver engaging, well-structured lessons tailored to each student's learning needs and academic goals.
- Prepare and use high-quality teaching resources, including lesson slides, worksheets, quizzes, homework assignments, review materials, and mock exams.
- Assign meaningful homework after each lesson, review students' work promptly, and provide constructive feedback.
- Identify students' learning gaps and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Develop personalized learning plans and recommend appropriate academic goals based on students' performance.
- Monitor students' academic progress and provide regular written or verbal feedback to students, parents, and BLUBC Education Consultants.
- Maintain accurate lesson records and student progress reports.
- Collaborate professionally with the BLUBC academic team.
- Continuously improve teaching materials and instructional strategies to maximize student learning outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience teaching AP Biology, Biology Olympiad, IB Biology, or equivalent advanced Biology courses.
- Strong knowledge of AP Biology curriculum and examination requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proven ability to explain complex biological concepts clearly and effectively.
- Strong organizational, instructional, and classroom management skills.
- Ability to motivate students with different learning styles and academic backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the BLUBC academic team.
- A high level of professionalism, reliability, and commitment to student success.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least one year of experience teaching AP Biology, Biology Olympiad, or IB Biology.
- Experience coaching students for Biology Olympiad competitions (e.g., USABO, Canadian Biology Olympiad, BBO) is strongly preferred.
- Experience preparing students for AP Biology examinations with excellent academic outcomes.
- Experience teaching one-on-one and small-group classes.
- Experience teaching first-year university Biology is considered an asset.
- Additional language(s), such as Mandarin, are considered an asset.
