Data Pharms Inc., operating under HomeShare, is hiring an experienced, hands-on Skilled Maintenance and Renovation Worker for residential properties throughout Thunder Bay.
This is not an entry-level helper or general-labour position. We are looking for someone who can receive a written scope and photos, assess the work, identify missing information, plan the job, complete it safely, and document the result without needing constant supervision.
WORK ARRANGEMENT
- Field-based work at occupied and vacant residential properties throughout Thunder Bay.
- $28–$35 per hour, based on demonstrated experience and ability.
- Consistent full-time hours are available. Occasional additional hours may be available by mutual agreement and in accordance with applicable employment standards.
- The role will begin with a paid introductory period expected to last approximately three to six months. Continued long-term work will depend on workmanship, reliability, communication, productivity, and mutual fit.
- The exact working relationship, employment status, hours, and other terms will be confirmed in the written offer or agreement and will follow applicable law.
- Data Pharms will arrange and supply job-specific materials at the worksite.
- You should preferably own and maintain the ordinary hand and power tools needed for your regular work. Specialty tools or missing equipment may be provided or loaned when agreed in advance.
WHAT YOU MUST BE ABLE TO DO
- Inspect a problem, determine a practical repair approach, and explain what is required before starting.
- Work independently from a scope, photos, drawings, measurements, and written instructions.
- Plan the order of work, protect the work area, and keep the site organized.
- Recognize when information, approval, materials, or a licensed trade are required and stop to ask rather than guessing.
- Complete quality work, inspect or test the result, clean up properly, and report anything still outstanding.
- Provide accurate hours, material usage, receipts, progress notes, and useful before-and-after photos.
- Communicate delays, risks, damage, access problems, or scope changes promptly.
TYPICAL WORK
- Drywall installation, patching, taping, mudding, sanding, and finish preparation.
- Interior painting, surface preparation, touch-ups, and basic exterior coating work.
- Flooring installation and repairs, including laminate, vinyl plank, transitions, and baseboards.
- Trim, doors, locks, hardware, shelving, cabinetry adjustments, and general finish carpentry.
- Basic framing, blocking, repairs, caulking, weather sealing, and minor exterior work.
- Turnover repairs, deficiency correction, light demolition, material handling, cleanup, and job-site organization.
- Troubleshooting practical maintenance issues and coordinating with management when another trade or approval is needed.
Licensed electrical, plumbing, gas, and HVAC work is not part of this position unless you are separately qualified and specifically authorized.
REQUIRED
- At least three years of paid, hands-on residential maintenance, renovation, carpentry, finishing, or equivalent experience that you can clearly demonstrate.
- A valid driver's licence and dependable, insured vehicle for travelling between properties.
- Ability to work independently and make sound practical decisions without constant direction.
- Availability for consistent full-time work and willingness to complete time-sensitive work when reasonably required.
- Ability to use a smartphone for work orders, email, photos, time records, and updates.
- Safe, respectful conduct in occupied properties and professional communication with residents, coworkers, and management.
- Reliable attendance, accurate timekeeping, attention to detail, and follow-through.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada.
STRONGLY PREFERRED
- Your own standard hand and power tools.
- Broad ability across several renovation and maintenance areas.
- References, photographs, or a portfolio showing completed work.
- Experience estimating material quantities, reading basic drawings or scopes, and identifying deficiencies.
THIS ROLE IS PROBABLY NOT A FIT IF
- Your experience is limited to general labour or assisting another worker.
- You need step-by-step direction throughout routine repairs.
- You do not have a valid driver's licence and reliable vehicle.
- You are not comfortable documenting your work or being accountable for the finished result.
