Position Purpose
Citxw Nlaka'pamux Assembly (CNA) was created in 2013 as a powerful and unifying voice for eight Nlaka’pamux Bands regarding the Teck Highland Valley Copper Mine. It is governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the eight Participating Bands. Headquartered in Merritt, BC, with a workforce of over 60, CNA provides training and job readiness along with cultural, social, and technical programming to the over 3035 members of the eight Participating Bands.
The Human Resources Generalist, internally known as the People and Talent Generalist, supports the day-to-day delivery of HR services across CNA and affiliated entities. Reporting to the People and Talent Development Manager, this role assists with recruitment, onboarding, training coordination, HR administration, performance management, and policy support. The successful candidate will be highly organized, people-focused, and able to handle confidential information with professionalism and care. This role is ideal for an HR professional who is eager to grow within a values-based, Indigenous-led organization.
Primary Duties
- Prepare recruitment materials based on approved requests from managers, including job postings, interview packages, and related documentation,
- Prepare employment agreements, amendments, and other employment documentation for review and approval,
- Screen applicants, coordinate and participate in interviews, conduct reference checks, and support candidate selection and hiring processes,
- Arrange and post approved job advertisements,
- Process, verify, and maintain personnel documentation related to hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, employee changes, and employment classifications,
- Maintain and update the Human Resources Information System, ensuring employee information and records are accurate and current,
- Prepare reports, templates, forms, and tracking documents for review and approval as required,
- Respond to HR-related inquiries from employees, managers, applicants, and external contacts,
- Coordinate internal and external training opportunities, both in person and virtually,
- Support onboarding and orientation processes, including preparing required documentation and coordinating onboarding activities,
- Track training completion, professional development, probationary periods, and employee review requirements,
- Research, draft, edit, format, and maintain HR policies and procedures for review and approval,
- Develop, document, and continuously improve HR standard operating procedures, workflows, templates, and resources in collaboration with the People and Talent Development Manager,
- Support performance management, employee engagement, recognition, wellness, and other People and Talent processes,
- Collaborate with the People and Talent team on operational and strategic HR initiatives,
- Contribute to HR practices that promote equity, inclusion, cultural safety, and a respectful workplace, and
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by the People and Talent Development Manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism,
- Strong organizational and administrative skills with a high level of attention to detail,
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment while effectively prioritizing, multitasking, and managing time,
- Ability to take initiative, work collaboratively, and complete assigned work with appropriate guidance and oversight,
- Sound judgment, integrity, and a high degree of professionalism,
- Ability to build respectful and effective working relationships with employees, managers, applicants, and external contacts,
- Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office productivity software, along with strong general computer skills,
- Ability to learn and effectively use HR information systems and other workplace technology, and
- Willingness to learn nłeʔkepmx cultural values and protocols while recognizing and respecting cultural diversity.
Experience and Requirements
- 1–3 years of experience in Human Resources, recruitment, or related administrative roles,
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience,
- Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation or equivalent, is an asset,
- Experience using Collage or similar HRIS software is an asset,
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle,
- Completion of a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check required, and
- A strong desire to learn, grow, and contribute to a collaborative team.
Work Environment
- Schedule: Monday through Friday between 8:30am and 4:30pm, with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break, fluctuating when needed. On average, 35 hours per week,
- Overtime: All daily overtime over 8 hours will be banked at 1.5x, all hours over 12 will be banked at 2x,
- Reporting Office Location: Office work will be conducted from the CNA office at 2025 Granite Ave, Merritt BC,
- Vacation: 2 weeks paid vacation (10 working days), accrued at 0.84 per month,
- Winter Break: 2 weeks paid (max 10 working days),
- Benefits: 50% benefit premiums paid by employer,
- Pension: Pension matching (percentage increasing with years of service), and
