Are you a qualified Tong hand and would like to live in central Alberta? We are a Sylvan Lake based TONG Company that has open positions for experienced Tong hands that like to work in a team environment.
This position includes some shop time and field work which may include: Pipe cleaning along with “digi-tally” measurement. Operate Hydraulic Tongs, Torque Computer work. Work is commissionable and includes commissions on company owned rentals used on the job.
Candidates need:
- Current H2S ticket.
- First Aid
- CSO
- Driver License record which is acceptable to our insurance providers.
- Preferred Class 3 or better with Air brake endorsement (without it some work maybe limited but we will assist as much as possible to obtain it)
Responsibilities:
- Follow all safety protocols at all times in both the shop and field.
- Have proper PPE for the intended work.
- Ensure that environmental standards are met.
- Ensure all equipment required for a job is checked and properly loaded and secured both before and after a job.
- Inspect tongs, backup systems, and hydraulic units before and after use.
- Set up and rig down power tongs and related equipment on-site.
- Make up and break out casing, tubing, and drill pipe using hydraulic tongs.
- Ensure proper torque is applied to connections according to job specifications.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
- Using gauges or digital systems monitor and record torque readings accurately.
- During tong operations ensure proper alignment and stability of pipe.
- Communicate effectively with team mates, rig crew and supervisors during operations.
- Identify and troubleshoot mechanical or hydraulic issues to minimize downtime.
- Assist with general rig floor duties when not operating tongs.
- Ensure a clean and organized work area is maintained.
